SIMPLEHUMAN 1.5 Litre BRUSHED STEEL TABLE TOP BIN
I put a lot of thought into the layout of my new kitchen and I think it's working out well so far. It's very nearly finished now. The decorating and tiling is all done and now my husband only has to finish a couple of things like here and there. The flooring was laid today and so I went out to shop for some new curtains today and a few more necessary accessories. It's now just a case of finishing up and finding the most convenient places for the new accessories. We have at last reached the best part.
I've kept everything as much as possible to the recommended working triangle for a kitchen, with cooker, sink and fridge freezer all conveniently placed within this. But although mine isn't a massive kitchen and nothing is really very far away, the kitchen bin sits at the end of a run of units. As said, it isn't that far away but even so when wet items or used tea bags need to be disposed of there can be a horrible trail left across the floor on the way to the bin. Of course how much spillage depends on the person disposing of the rubbish and to how much liquid they could be bothered to squeeze out of the tea bags. To be perfectly honest, my family seem to like leaving tea bags in the sink (my new sink!) and aren't able to understand that they can go in the bin. To prevent a build-up of tea stains and a mini mountain of tea bags in my sink I have been looking for a small bin to fit on the windowsill above the sink, which can hold small items for disposal, such as tea bags, bottle tops etc. Anything that can fit comfortably into a small bin just for a short time until the contents of this bin is emptied into the large bin. Most receptacles I've seen are too big or are tiny pedal bins or bright neon plastic containers. I wanted something to fit in with the rest of the kitchen and so, when I found just what I was looking for in The Range recently, I was rather pleased. True, I hadn't really wanted to pay so much for just a small item but seeing as this was exactly what I wanted I decided to buy it.
The bin is manufactured by the company Simple Human. I already own several items by them and so far have been very pleased with my purchases. Not only do they manufacture kitchen goods but bathroom and home-wares in general.
MY OPINION
This tiny bin matches other accessories in my kitchen. I think it looks very good with its body being made of brushed stainless steel and this is even coated to be fingerprint proof. This just has to be a bonus with a steel push top bin.
The lid is a swing type which is what I preferred. It's very easy to pull off and push on. It has a black rim and the top is of brushed steel and is also finger print proof.
The lid to this bin is balanced centrally, meaning it opens easily and will swing back gently to a closed position.
The interior and the base is made from a smooth and easy clean black plastic.
I find the bin very easy to empty as the lid pulls off simply and this isn't at all hard to do, even for me who finds many items difficult to open.
Although the plastic inside, as previously mentioned, can be cleaned easily, I still prefer to use a bag as a liner. The bags I use are cheap lunch bags and freezer bags. I have sometimes even used carrier bags which I have quickly cut down to size. Bags can also be bought specifically for this bin.
Another very useful feature of this bin is that the base is slip proof which really does aid ease of use when using one hand to put rubbish into it at busy times. It fits securely upon my windowsill serving its purpose well; so far my family seem to be able to manage to drop tea bags into this bin. Of course I had to carefully explain its purpose first!
DIMENSIONS
This bin has a 1.5 litre capacity which is just big enough for a day or two of rubbish. In the summer I will empty it more as the sun will shine onto it. Mind you food doesn't go into it so it may be okay; I shall have to see. I can always move it next to the sink.
12.7cm wide
12.7cm deep
18.8cm high
Weight 0.5 kg
USES
Well its obvious use is as a waste bin and although I use it in my kitchen I feel it is also ideal to use in a bedroom or even more so in an office or study as a smart desk top bin.
It would also look good, in my opinion, in a modern bathroom, a utility room or perhaps in a summerhouse. I think it would be suitable for any place really, where only a small amount of rubbish needs to be disposed of for a little while.
In the kitchen this bin only takes up a very small amount of space. I think that it looks good enough to keep on a windowsill, table, shelf or worktop in a kitchen.
From my point of view this bin is ideal for my kitchen and the windowsill above the sink is the perfect spot for it.
*This bin is available in other colours.
* The table top bin has a five year warranty.
