We changed our decor in our kitchen recently and wanted a black bin to match the rest of the room. We found one of these bins from Tesco. The bin costs £11.97 which is quite a good price for a plastic bin. We bought a black version of this bin, the main body is black and the bit where you put the rubbish through is silvery grey colour. The bin holds quite a bit of rubbish, it holds 45L which is more than you would have though would fit in this bin as it doesn't look so big. I seems to fit better in the gap we had our other bin in but it holds more rubbish. I think this is because of its rounded shape instead of being more square than the other bins of this kind. We are using normal black rubbish sacks in the bin as being black anyway they don't look bad with the bit hanging out side. This makes it cheaper for us in the long run as we have to put black bags out for the rubbish men to take so we were using white bags in our old bin then rewrapping them in black ones before we put the rubbish out. A good thing about this bin is the lid, it is easy for us to move it to put rubbish in but my dog is finding it harder to do, with out last bin he was always going down it pinching things out of the bin and sometimes knocking it all over the floor. The hole is smaller on this bin so he can't fit all his head in (he is a big dog lol), plus the way the lid goes makes it harder for him. The bin feels sturdier on the ground too being round so I don't think he would knock it over so easily anyway. The lid fits on really nicely, once on it feels like it is secure on there and it holds the bag in place nicely too. When you have emptied the bin it is easy to wipe it out with a paper towel and a squirt of kitchen cleaner liquid. The lid bit is also easy to keep it clean. I would recommend these bins if you are looking for a good quality plastic bin at a good price.
When I was trying to outfit my kitchen I needed to choose a good bin, and I chose to buy this one. But I have to say that the pricipal reason for this choice was obviously - Price. So I went and bought the Tontarelli Bullet Bin It sells at Argos and most hardward stores like robert dyas for around £12 to £14, Its a long high based bulet bin with rounded top and holds 45 litres, so you dont need to empty it very much, unless its in the summer in which case you will need to probably empty your bin a bit more regularly in the summer...but in the winter this feature is great. The capacity is around three quarters of a black bin liner. leaving you enough capacity to collect up the ends and tie them off. The lid Other than the cylindrical shaped bin, the other main componant is the spherical top, or half sphere at least. It has a flip up lid on it thats on a kindve swing mechanism. As this lid isnt exactly the biggest in the world and does not cover the entire top of the bin like most flip ups it does make it slightly hard to put in bigger amounts of rubbish or food, and it tends to get over the sides, making the cleaning of this bin a more regular job then perhaps you would have to do. But it does afford one advantage, I have had full top flip bins in the past and when you have some nasty smells coming out of there when you flip it up its spreads nasty smells all over the kitchen...with this lid hat is no a problem. The lid is black in colour and so this can show up stains less easily then silver or white goods, but its still not ideal and the lip is ideal for grabbing the tops of bin bags The base The other componant is the base, which obviously makes up a capacity has a matt finish silvery grey colour and unfortunately this looks and reeks of cheapness, it just looks plasticy and badly put together and although this may be the cae, when you have it in your kitchen you dont want it to look like that. This unattracive finish is a real let down, and because it makes up the majority of this bin it brings the whole look down. It also marks and stains with bits of rubbish and food inside the base far too easily and although it has holes in the base to let running water through and so is easier to clean, its still a nasty job to carry out again and again.
We had a Tontarelli Bullet Bin for use as a kitchen bin. It was something we bought in haste and although it worked in the kitchen to a certain extent, it was something we were never 100% happy with and wouldn't buy again. The Tontarelli Bullet Bin we had, came as an odd silvery plastic finished bin, that was both semi matt and more silver than grey at the same time. Ok, that may sound impossible, but its true, it was kind of matt, kind of silver. ********************************************************** The lid was the same odd silvery colour and stuck up like an ungainly camels hump on top of the cylindrical base, which became slightly narrower at the bottom. The shape of the bin, when compared to more recent bins we have bought seems to be a bit dated looking. Sleek is not a word I would ever use to describe the shape of the bin. The opening flap bit which was set into the bulbous lid was always a pain. Even though it was made of black plastic that was ever so slightly textured, so made to not look dirty, it failed miserably. It was prone to becoming marked, stained, greasy, food splattered, etc, at the mere hint of you putting food waste into the bin. ********************************************************** I always resented the fact that we had chosen a bin that seemed to attract more dirt and scum on the outside than it did on the inside. Even the main body of the bin with its silly silvery plastic seemed to attract drips and spills like a magnet, well if a plastic bin can be magnetic! Every time the bin was emptied the lid tended to fall off before we got chance to place it safely on a flat surface. We could never fill the bin to its full capacity as if we did so then the lid would end up being blocked and the contents would spill, when we tried to lift the bin liner to remove it. If you tried to over fill it, the only way to access the inside was to remove the lid, so all that space under the bulbous lid was completely wasted. ********************************************************* Thinking about how to rate the bin, leads me back to how we felt when we had to use the bin on a daily basis. Whilst the bin stood quite high and had the capacity to store almost a 3/4 full black bin liner full of rubbish within its depths, the lid always got in the way of that. The bin was awkward to use, the finish was a bit gloomy and we honestly bought it more for the fact that it was well priced at £12 or so, rather than because it fitted our full requirements. Although we did have the bin for a long time before we kicked it to the curb it was not something I feel the need to recommend. ********************************************************** As a rating for the bin is required it gets 3 stars, there is nothing in the world that would induce me to buy this again, as it was awkward to use and seemed to end up dirtier than the rubbish we filled it with. It isn't completely unattractive, but its not the best design and the silvery plastic finish looks very dated when compared to stainless steel bins we have had since then.
==Tontarelli Bullet Bin== The Tontarelli 45 litre bullet bin I sold by Argos and costs a good price of £11.99 pence. It is about the third bullet type bin we have ever owned and I feel it is by far the best. I remember way back to our very first bin which has a swing lid and was a long cube type shape. The bin probably cost around the same sort of price as this one here, and looked okay. However the main draw back was the general design of the thing which was totally wrong. The swing lid of the bin meant that the rubbish could not be piled into the bin easily and it would only allow for filling of below the lid otherwise the swing action would not work. There is no such problem with this Tontarelli bin as the lid is a pull up one which tucks neatly back into the top bullet shape of the static part of thelid. This allows for ultimate filling and is a far better design. The second problem with our first bin was the small capacity of the thing as it held around 25 to 30 litres of rubbish. This is literally rubbish and we were having to empty the thing on a far more regular basis than we empty our Tontarelli 45 litre Bullet bin. The large 45 litre capacity is wonderful and really does hold a good 4 or 5 days worth of total household rubbish, meaning less bin nags used and less trips out to the "Bin Hole". Our second household kitchen bin was a stainless steel one which had around a 35 litre capacity and a foot operated lid. This was a vast improvement on the first bin as it looked better, held more and had a better operating system. It still had its draw back though as far as I was concerned. The stainless steel element to the bin meant that it seemed to attract the dirt and needed polishing on literally a daily basis to keep up its nice appearance. This was of course always done by me as Himself wouldn't worry about such important things as polishing the bin! This Tontarelli bin however is made from a silver plastic which still has a very smart look to it, although perhaps not as fancy as stainless steel but nonetheless fitting with the other silver appliances. Although of course I do clean this regularly I don't feel it needs the time and attention that polishing a stainless steel bin did. Another draw back of the old stainless steel bin was the capacity of the bin as although it was better than our first still seemed to get filled up quicker than the Tontarelli one due to its taller and slimmer design. Plus I always felt that the bin bags never fit it as well as they might and was always faced with the dilemma of either having to tuck the bin bag literally inside the bin and run the risk of getting bean juice or the like on the top of the bag, or having it poking out and it taking away some of the attractiveness of the stainless steel bin. Now to our current bin the Tontarelli 45 litre Bullet Bin. It has everything anyone would really want of a bin and for a really reasonable price. The look of the bin is something that I really can't fault as it fits seamlessly into our kitchen as the black lid section and the grey/silver lid and matching bin works wither the other items in the kitchen. The large 45 litre capacity is really a perfect size and can last days without needing to be emptied which is good going considering that there are three of us creating daily refuse and that this is the main bin used in the flat. The design of the bin is spot on too as not only does the bullet shape of the lid make way for that little bit of extra rubbish to be pushed down within the bin bag, but is also has a little lip all the way around the top of the bin, under the lid, where the excess of the bin bag can up tucked up and under to hide away the edges of the bag. Therefore the bag inside the bin is securely in place and no bean juice will get on to the areas of the bag which will be pulled together to tie up. This means that the look of the bin is still kept neat and tidy too! Cleaning the bin is easy as the smooth plastic is easily sponged down and it also takes to being sprayed with kitchen cleaner well. Although our other bins were part of our past, this Tontarelli Bullet bin has easily replaced them and in a much better fashion. I really hope we don't' need another bin for a long time but by chance this bin gets old and tired, I know that I will replace it with a younger version of the Tontarelli! A great bin! 5 out of 5 star rating and an exceptionally high recommendation! Many thanks for taking the time to read. I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you bin lovers out there!
