Advantages: Good zoom
Disadvantages: Some may not Like the larger size
I bought these binoculars for one reason and one reason only spying on my neighbours. Only kidding, I bought these for my dad to use mostly as he loves to watch wildlife. But also for me to use when we go on our fishing trips. My dad has a theory that if you watch the habits of the birds by the river bed, you can determine the best place to fish. So my job once we arrive at the lake is to be on lookout duty.
While he unpacks everything form the car (I'm not leaving him to do all the heavy work as all there are only the fishing rods, a blanket, a tackle box and a radio and he just takes them out of the boot, I bring them down to the river) So I leave him to it and sit by the riverside and watch the birds, even if I wasn't watching them for this reason, it really is lovely to see the little things sitting there living their lives of freedom, and with the zoom (20 times magnification) I can literally go right up on their tiny faces, remarkable.
These are full size binoculars so I find they sit very comfortably in my hands and aren't too heavy. I don't like the little dainty ones as I feel they're a bit fiddly when trying to focus. These on the other hand are very easy to focus. There is a handy, easy to use focusing knob right in the centre between the eyepieces. This results in quick focusing when it's most needed. There is also a "diopter adjustment" this can be found on the right eyepiece and can be adjusted for very fine tuning of the focusing levels as everyone's eyesight is different. There is also a rubber like covering of the central body panel of these binoculars.
This covering has finger impressions and both my dad and I find this makes holding these up to your eyes far more comfortable than a pair without this feature. This covering also ensures a good tight grip, as the last thing either myself or my dad would want is for these to go and fall into the water and down to the bottom of the lake. These are described by the manufacture as having a "water resistant body" and being "weather proof / weather resistant". But I still wouldn't like to put it to the test.
Once I see more than one bird land on a branch and both of them watch the water with their heads going in the same direction, we know where to set up shop.
These can be purchased online for £39 at optical-systems.com. When you think binoculars can cost literally hundreds of pounds I think they are well worth the money.
My dad will most likely kill me for giving away one of his very own fishing tricks that he, and he alone has used for years. But give it a go when you next go fishing I guarantee it will result in a larger catch rate.
Thanks for reading :0) 2night.
Summary: Great for seeing the world close up.
