Fabulous compact binoculars at a reasonable price.

I bought these last year as a newbie to binoculars but I wanted something lightweight and compact for travelling. The choice was a bit mind boggling but these were recommended to me by someone in the business and I've not been disappointed.

Minox is a German company and has a good reputation. I've read that it was set up by some ex Leica employees which means high quality lenses but a much lower price. The binoculars weigh less than 10 oz and come with their own carry case and strap. They are nearly 4.5 inches high and just under 4 inches wide and have soft rubber eye-cups which means that my husband who wears glasses can also use them easily. The body is very sturdy and according to the blurb waterproof.

As I say, I do not claim to be an expert or an avid bird-watcher but for the casual user I've been very impressed with my Minox which seems to offer very good value for money. I've struggled in the past to use binoculars successfully but have found these really easy to use and focus. I've used them for bird watching and general sight-seeing. I bought them with a USA road trip in mind when they came into their own for spotting wildlife - deer, etc (but sadly no bears!) - and identifying things on the horizon. My husband has used them for checking tiles on the roof and I used them at Wimbledon when I was lucky enough to get tickets on Centre Court but they were right at the back.

So all in all very practical for a variety of uses but I would imagine that a dedicated bird watcher might want something more.
