Advantages: Versatile, excellent clear image, durable
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
After a bit of research I bought these as a treat for myself from Amazon for £129.99 as I am quite into watching wildlife and am so glad I decided to buy these. They are suitable for a wide range of activities including nature watching, birdwatching, mountaineering, camping, hiking, fishing and spectator sports making them highly versatile.
The binoculars came packaged securely so they didn't move around too much. They also came with a case which fits the binoculars nicely and protects against dust and scratches. They have a very impressive appearance with dark grey and black covering. The thick lenses are surrounded by soft rubber to make them more comfortable. All of the lenses and prisms are made from eco-glass optics which are free from lead and arsenic. The binoculars are medium-sized with a length of 187mm and width of 139mm. They weigh only 825g with rubber sides for grip making them easy to hold onto for long time periods although if you hold them up to your eyes for too long your arms begin to ache a little.
The magnification strength is 10x with a close-focusing distance of 5m. The image you get is excellent and has great clarity even at full zoom. The focus is easily adjustable and it doesn't take long to bring the image into focus. The lenses are multi-layered which allows good light transmission to provide a good balance of colour and most importantly images which are bright and clear. The binoculars have a relative brightness of 25 which is good for use at slightly lower light levels.
The binoculars are not only waterproof, which is a highly important feature in England, but they are also fog-proof. This is great as one of the best times for birdwatching tends to be early morning when fog is likely to be around so this is a useful feature. The waterproofing also means you can use them underwater although I have never tried this myself. To give extra protection from the weather the binoculars have O-ring seals and nitrogen gas. Another feature is that the rubber eyecups twist and slide to click into place into one of the multiple settings which allow you to easily position the eye. The design also provides excellent field of view at 1000m -98m even for those who wear glasses.
They have proved to be very durable and well-made as I have dropped them at least twice now with no apparent damage. I wouldn't recommend throwing them around too much due to the delicate lenses but the rubber coating seems to provide quite a bit of protection.
Summary: High quality binoculars that give a brilliant image with useful features
