Advantages: non fiction, action packed, interesting

Disadvantages: it ends

I've been interested in the army ever since I was young. I've been reading books on the British army, royal marines, special forces etc. for a long time now, and this is one of my favourite books of all time. It costs about £8 and is also avaliable as an audiobook.

Andy McNab is a Special Air Service (SAS) legend who commanded the famous bravo 2 zero mission during the first gulf war. He has written several non-fiction books (including immediate action), and several fictional books. In my opinion the non fictional books are far better and more interesting than the fictional books. Having read 3 of his non fictional books; immediate action, bravo 2 zero and 7 troop; I can honestly say that I believe that immediate action is the most interesting of the 3.

The book takes you on a journey throughout McNab's life, starting when he was a young kid on the streets of London, going on to talk about his career in the green jackets, his selection to get into the SAS, and his SAS career itself. The book has photographs of McNab and equipment that he used, which helps to build up a picture in your mind. The book is well written and easy to read, and there are some genuine 'laugh out loud' moments in the book.

A lot of technical army jargon is used in the book, but there is a helpful glossary at the back which tells you what everything means. I first read this book when I was not in the army, and it was a joy. I re-read the book after being in the army for 2 years and I found that I enjoyed it even more as I could more easily understand the army jargon and what was going on.

Overall this is one of the best books that I have ever read. If you are interested in the armed forces, special forces or just want to read a very entertaining book then I would recommend immediate action.

Summary: a great read. you'll read it more than once.
