Lucky Man is the autobiography of Michael J Fox, one of the big stars of the 1980s, who is probably best know by British audiences for his role in the Back to the Future films. Diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease in 1991, Fox kept his illness a secret from all but his family and closest associates for seven years, during which time he fought his own private battle to come to terms with it. After going public about his illness in 1998, he became an active campaigner for research into finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. Far from being a depressing read, this book is full of humour, insight and optimism. It is written in a highly engaging style, ... Read the complete review

Michael J Fox hid the fact he had Parkinsons disease for years. When he finally came out with his symptons of his disease he thought his career may be over in 10 years. For him though, he thought it had just begun again. Fox's story is inspirational. Although it begins with him telling us about his symptons and the way the disease started, he goes on then to explain his family life in canada, his move to the US, his time in family Ties as Alex P Keaton, and reviews some information of his time in 'The Hard Way', 'Teen Wolf', the Back to the future series, and lastly his show 'Spin City' among other career projects. Fox delivers his words with a ... Read the complete review

I had always wondered if Mike had written an autobiography but had never found it in book stores when browsing. So I'd always assumed he had been too busy and didn't look further. However upon stumbling accross this at an old book store that was closing down I have to say I wish I had found it sooner. Lucky Man is the story of Michael's life up until the early 00's, but it isn't told in a straight way. You don't start at his childhood and end up at the end, instead he flits between the past and present, childhood memories and times on set. It makes it feel like a real conversation with the man, instead of a chronologic sum up of his life till ... Read the complete review

Micheal J Fox is a man I grew up watching on television. The Back to the Future series are some of my favourite films so when I found out that he had Parkinsons I was astounded. He always seemed so lively and it was hard to believe. But this book shows me that Im not the only one who thought this. He goes into great detail about how he was misdiagnosed and diagnosed and had to go to therapy for denial and how he hid his disease from the rest of the world and how the world reacted to his coming out about it. The book is interesting when it comes to his background but the most interesting part of the book is about his Parkinsons and what happened to him because of it. ... Read the complete review
