This is my review of Dame Stella Rimington's new autobiography OPEN SECRET for which the government and papers seemed to kick up such a fuss about her being a traitor. What a fantastic book and what a load of tutt all that newspaper revalation this is top secret stuff was. This book is all about the lady behind the stories and suspicions and at no time ever well to me anyway seems to give away national secrets or names anybody. The story of her life and the way that she tried to live as normal a life as possible while bringing up 2 girls was amazing and I would love to actually sit down and talk to this amazing lady and find out more because this book leaves you with all sorts of questions. The way she has progressed in a very male orientated world is fantastic and all described in great detail including the slap on the back buy yourself something nice part, that to me is just typically what I would expect from those types of grey haired old dinosaurs Well done Stella Rimington on a great book and to hell with the lot of them. This book has some laughs and some great storys about a very different kind of life that we could only imagine as normal 9-5 ers. Before you make up your mind as to whether or not this wonderful lady is a traitor to the country try reading it you may be pleasantly suprised. This book was a bit steep when I bought it 18.99 but is now up for £9.97 at Amazon so if you wanna buy it get it from there as it seems to be the cheapest.
Stella Rimington writes: 'Nothing in my life ever turned out as expected. Having originally chosen a safe career, I ended up as leader of one of the country's intelligence agencies and a target for terrorists. Having conventionally married my schoolfriend, I ended up a single parent. Having begun work in the days when women's careers were not taken seriously, I ended up advising ministers and Prime Ministers. I have experienced all this from an unusual position, inside the secret state.
