My guinea pigs love carrots, both fresh and in their dried form. (Though it's a good thing to remember not to feed carrots daily as they are very high in sugar and guinea pigs can suffer from diabetes, best to stick to feeding once or twice a week). Whilst on zooplus I noticed these dried carrot pieces by JR Farm and as the boys hadn't had any in a while I decided to pop a bag in my basket alongside my other purchases.

From the description we are told that "JR Farm Carrot Chips are carefully dried to lock in the natural vitamins and essential beta-carotene. Pure nature with high fibre content for optimal digestion!" with the feeding guidelines being: "Depending on the size of your pet, feed it 1-4 teaspoons per day, on its own or mixed in with the main food." It's wise to note here that they are suitable for rabbits, rodents, parrots and parakeets but that they aren't recommended for degus. For the price of £2.29 you get a 125g bag; this doesn't sound a lot but the carrot bits are tightly packed in and you get a lot more due to them being very lightweight. The pieces range in size but each one is still bright orange and fairly crunchy so you know that the freshness has been locked in during the drying process. They aren't rock hard pieces but do retain a good bite to them, not all soft and floppy like some other vegetable treats I've tried.

I generally hand feed these to my boys and I find that it's a great way to win over a pet and get them to trust you, even the most shy individual usually can't resist a tasty treat and will come over to investigate what's on offer. The great thing about these treats is that they're 100% natural, just carrots with no nasty additives, colourings or synthetic flavours; I don't know about you but I try and keep my pets' diet as healthy as possible, with these I know I can give them something tasty but that it's all good stuff at the same time. Great product and one that all 5 of my guinea pigs adore, just remember as with any treats to feed in moderation.
