Breville VHB019
by MEL0611
I had been looking at getting a new hand held blender for a few months, mine was a simple Tesco Value one and whilst it had served its purpose really well, it was getting old and grubby and the noise it made when it was in motion did not sound too healthy. I did question about even replacing it as I have a food processor so I can do a ... lot of blending with an attachment o this but then it is an effort getting it out of the cupboard where a hand blender is so easy to just plug in and get the job done in a quick fix. After having a look around to see what was out there I purchased a Breville VHB019 Stainless Steel Hand blender and here are my thoughts on the product.
Breville is a brand that I am very familiar with and I have always found their appliances to be of quality and reliability. The hand blender cost me around the £23.00 mark and this was from the Amazon website. I think I spotted it in the Argos catalogue but for me it was as easy to get this sent home. I wasn't sure of the price range for these until I soon saw that they had increased slightly from when I purchased the Tesco Value one but I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.
The Breville Hand blender came well packaged and with a one year manufacturers guarantee. The instruction manual was well worth a read as things have advanced slightly from my previous model. The hand blender is very sleek looking and is more lightweight than my old one, not flimsy but just very comfortable to hold in my hands. The design is one that has definitely been well thought out.
There are two different speed settings on the blender, the regular setting and the turbo setting, I was just used to one so I was keen to see just what this would do. I first had a go with something really simple, pureeing some sauce that was going to go with my steak that evening! I chopped some mushrooms and added the liquid into the beaker that is provided with the blender. The beaker has a 700ml capacity and I found it to be really useful, it had good depth so less mess!
The blender, even when on the quicker turbo mode is not as noisy as you may imagine, it does wiz around but nothing that hurts your ears and you you can still talk a little louder over it! The blender had no issue with making the sauce so the next time I used it on making a vegetable puree, I wanted the mixture of greens and carrot to go as an accompaniment and knew that the blender should be ok with this, it was in fact better than ok, it managed to puree the vegetable, on the regular setting with ease and there was only a small amount of liquid involved.
The blender has been used on a number of different occasions in our household and another plus point for it is that the detachable blade can be put in the dishwasher and then it looks brand new again 20 minutes alter! Perfect
In summary, I have no hesitation in recommending this product, is efficient and reliable and fingers crossed long lasting as I can see it being brought out on many occasions in our house!
5 out of 5 from me on this one

WHAT IS IT?
An smoothie maker designed to make single smoothies.
IS IT EASY TO USE?
Yes. The beauty of this smoothie maker is that you put your chopped fruit into one of the plastic beakers provided and attach the blade inside the beaker before placing the machine on top, once you've blended your ... smoothie you just remove the blade and drink it straight from the beaker. This cuts down on washing up and saves the potential waste of making up a large portion of smoothie.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
For me this has been a perfect purchase as we all like smoothies but we like different flavours and blends, the downside is that there are only two beakers provided so if all four of us want one we have to wait our turn. There are tops to fit the beakers with sipping spouts to make this ideal for children, the fun cow print design making it even more enjoyable for kids at smoothie time.
There is only one speed plus a pulse function but that is fine for the small amount of fruit you will be blending at any one time, it isn't powerful enough to crush ice cubes though and that's a shame as we all like ice in our smoothies. It has blended thoroughly everything I've put in it and never leaves me with lumps of fruit at the bottom of my drink.
The blender has non slip feet and the cord is long enough that you haven't got to be hunkered near the socket while blending your fruit. The beakers and tops are dishwasher safe and the blending section is easily wiped over to keep it looking clean, one of my beakers was stained in the summer after blending berries even though I drank the smoothie immediately so I wouldn't recommend using very dark coloured fruits unless stains don't concern you.
This is very loud for the small size, it woke my husband up after a night shift recently so now I don't use it in the day while he's in bed. It's more useful at the weekend when we have more time and can all enjoy a smoothie made exactly how we like it.
