Tesco Value Hand Blender
by 12jane
As a student I'm always on the lookout for bargains, and a friend recommended I purchase one of these Tesco Everyday Value Hand Blenders a few weeks ago. I am on a healthy eating plan, and am trying to get more fruit and vegetables into my diet.
It was only £6.50 which is a bargain, and I have made soup several times with it ... since buying it. The blender's power is 150W and is white with a metal blade at the bottom to do the blending.
This blender is very simple to use to make soup, simply boil the veg with a stock cube until soft, place in a large bowl and blend. The blender even breaks up pieces which are not soft right through, which surprised me. It makes a nice, smooth soup which is great in the cold evenings. I use a variety of vegetables including potato in my soups and it blends them beautifully, and quite quickly.
The only disadvantage is that it can be difficult to get fully clean. My sink is not deep enough to fit it in at an angle and you can't really get a sponge around the blade so I put in it and give it a shake around in the bubbles. My friend's is dyed orange at the base from making carrot soup, as the plastic is easily marked.
Overall I love this blender, is it easy and quick to use, and I'm sure there are other uses for it apart from soup, which I will discover soon! I will be recommending it to my other friends. Read the complete review |

Tesco Value Hand Blender

I do have the habit of wanting to "impulse buy" - there are certain times of year that certain products appeal to me more than others.
Both hubby and I work full time, so time is always very scarce - as much as I would love to cook fresh ingredients, from scratch, every day - the reality of me doing it is another ... matter.
When I say "certain times of the year" I mean now, January - directly after Christmas. Three years ago, after all the indulgences and luxuries of Christmas I started my new years resolution off, with a plan to eat better, to use more fresh ingredients and cut out all the junk food out of our diet.
My list was ever so long as to what I was going to buy, shop for and eat. But at the top of this list was a hand blender, to make home made-fresh soups with.
Fortunately, by nature I am a savvy shopper and I will not just go out and buy the latest brand name, just for the sake of it - also I am aware that when I buy these things they can turn out to be a little "faddy" so I am careful what I spend.
The perfect gadget was waiting for me in Tesco, - A Tesco Value Hand Blender HB07 - it costs the grand old amount of £5 - so at the end of the day if it turned out to be a fad (and my husband would put money on this being so) then £5 wasted is not so very bad.
As it turns out this little blender is absolutely superb, it really is. It comes well packaged in a box, with a protective covering over the end where the blade is.
It is White - now as a rule I prefer kitchen gadgets to be white, I like to see how clean things actually are and with white, it takes no prisoners. Easy to clean, I emerse the blade part into hot soapy water and use a bottle brush to clean the blades - which must be very sharp, so be aware
Once unwrapped out of the box, there is no setting up to be done, it is totally complete - just plug it in and turn it on.
This is only a basic model, whether you could get others with more settings I do not know, but this model is 150 watts, which is more than fast enough and it has one speed - therefore it is either on or off.
It is made of plastic and 36cm long and a perfect width to be able to hold comfortably.
I have indeed made soups with it - I am known to make a large slow-cooked stew, beef and vegetables and turn on the handblender and whizz up some soup - very delicious and very efficient. It would be fair to say that a full slowcooker of stew would take three or four minutes to blend down to make a gorgeous thick soup.
I have three very young children and my daughter and I have experimented with various fish and chicken dishes, with vegetables and stock, blended them down for wholesome baby food. So much better than any babyfood product that you buy in a tin etc..
In summary, a good cheap kitchen gadget - very effective in blending foods.
Also in summary, my hubby was right - it was a fad and I haven't made soup for about a year now! This however has no reflection on the handblender, which kept it's promises! Read the complete review |

Tesco Value Hand Blender

Last year, I joined a certain slimming club which meant i needed to re-visit my eating habits. Alot of the recipies included soups, made from a variety of vegetables. I like a smooth soup, and decided to buy a blender.
Never having used a blender before, I decided to go for a reasonably priced one and opted for the Tesco ... Value Hand Blender, at around £8 when i bought it. The blender comes in 2 parts. One part is the motor and the other is the attachment. To assemble, you simply push the attachement against the motor and rotate the motor to lock them together. There is an arrow on the base and when it is opposite the lock icon, the blender is then locked into position.
Components
Three speed switch.
The speed you choose will depend on the volume of food to be blended, and if the food you are blending is very soft or a little harder. I normally use it on th 1st speed setting, which blends about 2 litres of soup in about a minute. If the blender is run at full speed, which is speed setting 3, then it can only be used for 1 minute. After each use, the blender should then rest for 3 minutes before using it again, to give the motor time to cool down a little.
On Off Switch
This speaks for itself. It is located just under the 3 speed switch at the top of the blender.
Motor
The Motor is central in the top half of the blender
Blender Stem
The Blender Stem lies in the bottom half together with the blade
Specifications
Voltage Rating 220-240V, 50Hz
Power Consumption 200W
Net Weight 0.75kg
As this is hand held, it is important that the food is placed in a large bowl or pan etc to avoid splashing over the top of the container. Also make sure that the container is on a steady, even surface. It is very easy to hold. I simply place the belnder in the food before switching it on and hey presto it turns my bowl full of cooked vegetables into a smooth soup within a minute.
The blender does what it says on the box and is a good way of saving money on a cheaper product, if you don't tend to blend food all the time.
Full instructions come with the blender on how to assemble, use and clean it. The product is covered by a 12 month warranty from the date that it is purchased.
The product is a good buy for light use. Read the complete review |
