“ Brand: Braun / Type: Handheld Blender / Speeds: 1 / Jar Size: 33.81 oz. „
I started off with a value blender from a leading supermarket chain for around £5. My thinking behind this was, how complex a piece of machinery do you need to essentially pulverise food? Then someone bought me the Braun MultiQuick MR 500CA, and when I got over the initial shock of being given a hand blender as a birthday gift I realised I was correct. Sometimes the best thing for the job is the simplest thing.
The Multiquick is essentially identical to the bargain basement hand blender, except for the cup attachment which, honestly, I could live without. You can add the cup to your stock pile of drinking receptacles, maybe utilise it for foods with increased spray potential, but it's not much use for anything else. It only has one speed setting but then, how fast do you need to pulp food - fast or express-style? It's not as though Jackie Chan's looking on waiting to criticize you for dawdling. The one thing that strikes me about this model is that it looks a lot fancier than it actually is. With its textured grip and fluted chrome protector you'd expect the Multiquick to be equipped with a whole host of special features, but this is far from true, and that's no bad thing in my view.
It functions ideally, though. It blends food evenly and with minimum fuss. It's not overly noisy either, and the components are all high quality, so it can act as your handy kitchen staple for many years. Just don't buy it for a birthday gift for someone. They won't thank you for it.
