“ Brand: Breville / Blender Type: Handheld / Simple Soups Blender Gift Set „
We picked up this set earlier this year in the January sales, or rather my in laws did for us. They had been out shopping themselves and spotted this for about £12 in Comet. When they brought it home, my husband got the idea in his head that i might like it as a late Christmas present.
He knows i am fond of making soup, and my versions sometimes turned out a little lumpy using my very old kenwood food processor. He also hates cleaning that after i use it, so this seemed a good solution. We tried to pick one up ourselves for the same bargainous price but were unable to so we had to wait a while to get our hands on it as the in-laws picked one up in a London store and gave it us in February.
For the price we paid, we got a fantastic deal as we got the exact set shown in the picture above. 2 very decent soup bowls - red outer and white inner. One soup ladle. Also a soup recipe book from Good Food, containing 60 recipes for different types of soup if you don't know any recipes yourself. All of this for what you pay for just a blender usually. As an added bonus the in laws gave us their 2 bowls so we got a great set. And they ended up paying for it.
The blender itself is very easy to use. The cable is 0.5m long. There are 2 speed settings for blending which is ample, and once you master the technique of using the tool there is very little splatter when using it. The chopping blade is under a circular bit with small holes in it so the blade is protected. This makes it a bit safer as you don't feel like you will accidentally catch it, and reduces some of the splatter. It does however mean that it is harder to get all the lumps out without pausing, lifting the blender up, stirring the soup a bit, then putting the blender in and turning on again.
I find blending only takes a couple of minutes, which is probably a good thing as my hands are not huge so i find they ache from holding the blender and pressing the button in.
I really like this blender and it gets used at least a couple of times a week in our house. The motor is 400 watts and this is very suitable for making soups. I find it easy to use and clean as the blade detaches from the handle with a simple twisting action.
I can see it lasting a long time as it is well made. The blade is stainless steel and shows no sign of wear. As long as i don't try to cut anything too hard it should last for years.
If you fancy it, it might be worth waiting till the January sales to see if they repeat the fantastic bargain we grabbed.
