As my twins approached 5 months I thought it was time to open the books on how to wean them, upon doing this I discovered that if I was going to go down the traditional puree everything route then I was going to need a blender. There are a lot of blenders on the market and so I narrowed it down between price, features and power. This Philips Hand Blender with beaker and chopper seemed to offer the best deal and had good reviews.
The blender came well packaged in a box but was easy to get everything out. Upon getting the different bits out I decided I didn't need the chopper accessory and so put it back in the box where it has remained as I already have another chopper. I washed up the parts that were going to come into contact with the baby food and I was ready to go.
The main power unit is slightly heavier than I was expecting, but it's comfortable to hold. The unit is a mixture of plastic with rubber where you hold it so there is no risk of it slipping out of your hand. The 1.3 metre lead comes out of the top of the handle and so doesn't get in the way when you are using it. I find that the lead length is more than sufficient for where it has to reach in my kitchen. At 600 watts it was at the higher end of the scale of blenders I looked at but I wanted something that was going to doing the job quickly and efficiently which this blender does.
The blender attachment just clicks onto the the power unit and there are 2 buttons which you press to release it again. It has a blade on the bottom of the unit covered by a guard, this is a different colour to the rest of the attachment so it's easy to see.
The unit has to buttons situated in the rubber area of the handle. The on/off button and a turbo power button. I found the turbo button useful for when I was pureeing meat or just to speed up the job even more.
Using the blender
The blender comes with a 0.5 litre beaker and lid which I mainly used to make my purees, you just put your food in the beaker then insert the blender attachment until the blade guard is covered and then turn it on. It worked really quickly on cooked fruit and vegetables only needing to be moved round for a short time until the required consistency was reached. The only time it made any mess was if I accidently lifted it out from under the food but as the beaker was quite deep it kept mess to a minimum.
This blender would also be great for making soups, smoothies, etc and I hope to get lots more use from it and it's chopping attachment in the future.
The noise level on this blender isn't too bad and it never bothered my babies when I was using it.
Keeping the blender clean
This is really easy to do as the blender attachment and the beaker are dishwasher proof. I always wash the worse of the food off mine as soon as I finish using it but there is still some staining from tomato based foods, I guess this would be the same on any blender.
Price and availability
I purchased my blender from Amazon last year for £22.50, it is currently £24 which I still think is a good price for this blender. It is also available from Very for £24 and like Amazon comes with free delivery.
Would I recommend?
Yes, based on the blender feature only as I haven't tried the chopper this is great. I've never had any trouble with getting to blend the food and it is easy to clean when I've finished.
I received this as a Christmas present this year, and I actually already have a kenwood blender, so I didn't think I would use this one. This one though is a hand blender, and the box it comes in is actually quite big. But the blender itself isn't too big, it is a great size to hold, you get extra attachments and jugs in the box which is why it is in such a big box.
This blender comes with a 500ml beaker, which I have found great as it has a lid on it, it is great for heating up custard etc in the microwave.
The blender itself is exactly like it is in the picture, white and blue. It is really soft and easy to grip, it doesn't slip out of your hand at all.
There are two speed settings on this blender, and I found it chopped up my mix for my stuffed peppers brilliantly. It chopped up my tomatoes, cheese, onions, lettuce and other veg that I put in, and made it so much easier to make the filling.
I find this one easier to get out that the kenwood one I have, because it is only a hand held blender, it is so small and compact and so much easier to store away, it doesn't take up much room at all.
I was a bit worried using this blender that if you were blending food in a bowl it would all spill out everywhere, but it all stays within the bowl, and the blender actually has an anti splash blade guard to stop any spillages.
This morning I have been having a go at making my own cheesecake and I used this blender to crush up the digestive biscuits for my base, I didn't know if it would work or not, but it made them like breadcrumbs perfectly, and with no mess!
I will definitely use this blender a lot more than my other one, it is so much easier to get out and store away, everything is dishwasher safe, the attachments and beaker, except for the actual blender, which I just wipe clean. I highly recommend this one if you haven't used one before, it is so easy to use, and is a good one to start off with.
This was a present, but after searching on google, I have seen it for sale in argos for £20, which is a bargain for this blender, I wouldn't pay any more for a better one this one does the job perfectly.
I started a new health kick and decided I need to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, so I started making fresh homemade soups. However I am not keen on having huge lumps in the soup, I prefer to have a smooth soup. So I purchased a Philips HR1363 Hand Blender, the unit came with a beaker and chopping accessory as well as the standard unit.
This hand blender it easy to use and it has a double action stainless steel blade so that it can cut in both directions horizontally and vertically, it also comes with a blade guard so that you do not get splashed while you are using the blender.
This blender has a two speed setting and has parts that can be put into the dishwasher, which makes it easy to clean. The beaker has a 0.5 litre capacity and comes with a lid to easily store your prepared food away until it is needed. This Philips hand blender has a rubber soft touch grip, so you can easily use the blender with wet or sticky hands.
This Blender came with a small £20 price tag and I can safely say that I was not disappointed, it blends all of the fruit and vegetables in a matter of seconds and for those harder vegetables, there is a turbo mode. The splatter guard works really well as I have decorated many kitchens when using other blenders before.
If you like making making cakes and puddings this is also the blender for you as it can finely chop nuts or turn biscuits into crumbs in a few seconds. I would not use this to whip cream as the cream is over whipped after a few seconds. I am trying to find a whip attachment to attach to the unit so I do not have to purchase a whole new gadget.
Since I have had the blender I now do not only make soups, I also make fruit smoothies. It gives you great results every time and is compact so it easily fits into your cupboard and takes up minimal room compared to other food processors on the market.
I recieved this for Christmas as my previous Philips hand blender was dropped in the washing up bowl and I have been very impressed so far.
The blender is relatively quiet and it is simple to change to the different adaptions. The motor unit clicks onto to the chopping bowl or blender attachment by pressing and holding two buttons at the base of the motor unit. It is easy to remove so that the bowl/blender can be put straight in the dishwasher.
I have used the blender bar for making soups and have found that it makes a very smooth soup and gets all the lumps out unlike my previous blender which tended to leave lumpy bits. The chopping bowl however is my favourite part of the blender. It is great for chopping small volumes such as baby food and making salsa when it seems a waste to get my large food processor dirty.
It has a 600 watt motor which has been powerful enough to do everything we have wanted so far.
In summary this is a great blender, it is easy to use and simple to clean as it can be put in the dishwasher. It is good value compared to some similar products.
Recently i bought Philips HR1363. Before this i had one of another company's , but due to some machinal problem that, got out of order.I wanted to purchase the same one,but i heard a lot about Philips HR1363,so i went for this one.
I like cooking so i always try new recipes and ideas, for every recipe i like to take fresh and green vegitables so i use chopper alot, and philips HR1363 gives a marvellous result. The most good thing about it,that it doesn't make a loud noise..so sometimes i take a large amount of ingredient for chopping as well as for mixing.
Philips HR1363 is a good blender.Handheld blender colour is,white with lavender makes it's look delicate.it has 600waltt motor, that is much enough.it has double action blade and an extra powerful turbo button so you can cut your stiff vegetables & stuffs horizantly as well as vertically.it has Anti-splash blade guard that means no splashing of gravy mixing, while you blend. A 0.5 liter beaker with lid and a small chopper comes with this blender so you can measure stuff's quantity.Blender has stainless steel blade and dishwasher proof parts,so it is easy to maintain it's parts for longer. And it's cord length is about 1.3 meters,so you can also do another kitchen related work while chopping in the kitchen.
It is a portable blander and results are expectables.I bought it at £22.99. Oh, Yes it is a bit costly but good one product.Have an experience with this product.
