A great 3 in 1 hand blender that I definitely recommend

(The picture Dooyoo are displaying doesnt show the blender or the power unit.)

When Jayden started on solids I decided not to rely on jars and packets except in an emergency and make all his food myself. I also decided that if I was going to do this then I needed a good blender, I have a little cheap hand blender but that's on the way out and only works when it thinks it will.

I spotted the Spectrum 3 in 1 Hand Blender in Dunelm Mill, it was just what I was looking for and not too big, I have limited work top space and there's no way I would fit anything large in my cupboards, this seemed ideal and at just £19.99 it was a good price too.

      Packaging
The 3 in 1 hand blender is sold in a brightly coloured stripy box, the front shows a picture of what you get for your money, a stainless steel hand blender, stainless steel whisk, a 310ml chopper and a 600ml measuring cup.

      In The Box
When I opened the 3 in 1 hand blender I was impressed with how all the different bits were wrapped, each separate part was wrapped individually in clear bags and separated with plain cardboard. There is also a small instruction leaflet which is easy to follow although its very easy to figure it out anyway.

      The Power Unit
The 400w power unit is actually the handle which fits easily into each separate part, to attach it its just a case of pushing it in until it clicks, to remove it there are little release buttons each side which needs to be pressed, this is easy to do and shouldn't present most people with any problems. The handle has a 2 speed soft touch buttons, normal and turbo, which are also very easy to press.
The handle is nicely shaped and very comfortable to hold, its not too heavy either.

The power unit/handle is described as red but personally I think its more of a pink/red colour, as far as I know this is the only colour available.

The power unit came complete with a plug and a 140cm cable, not the longest but didn't present me with any problems however this depends on where your sockets are situated in your kitchen.

      The Hand Blender
The hand blender is made from stainless steel, it feels strong and the blades are very sharp, I use this mainly for blending cooked vegetables and fruit, its great for making soup and sauces too.

      The Chopping Unit
This consists of a plastic bowl, blades and a lid in which the motor unit/handle fits. To use the chopper you need to slot the blades into the bowl, then add whatever it is you are chopping, lastly click the lid in place which has the handle attached.
Once again these blades are very sharp and have no problems whipping through raw meat or vegetables, ideal for making your own burgers or sausages. Great for home made pesto and breadcrumbs too, it chops these really fine.

      The Whisk
The whisk actually feels quite flimsy although it whisks perfectly well. I use this part for whisking cream, egg whites and anything that needs whisking really.

      The Measuring Cup
This is a simple little plastic cup which comes with a lid, the cup has measurements up the side in ml's and fluid ounces. The markers go up to 600ml's or 20fl oz but the cup actually holds 1 1/2 pints of liquid. I like the fact that this measuring cup has both a lid and a spout, meaning if I've made soup or sauce early in the day ready for our evening meal I can pop it into the fridge ready to go.

All of the pieces can be washed in either hot soapy water or a dishwasher apart from the power unit which should just be wiped down with a damp cloth.

I've been really pleased with my 3 in 1 Hand Blender, I use it most days, its not very big and probably wouldn't suit a large family but for me its ideal. Its perfect for making Jayden's meals and much more. Ideal for blending or chopping up vegetables to "hide" in meals if you have a fussy eater.

Also good for keeping organised, in the chopper I will do a large bowl of bread crumbs then separate into small containers, leave some plain then add cheese, herbs and spices to the rest. I pop them in their little pots into the freezer and they are ready to use. Saves doing them at the last minuet.

If you are looking for a small appliance that will blend, chop and whisk then I would certainly recommend taking a look at this, its excellent value for money and something I have used over and over again.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A brilliant buy, highly recommended

I can't believe no one has reviewed the Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender before - it's absolutely brilliant!

      **Why Did I buy?**

I bought the Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender for two reasons - 1. I wanted a hand blender which was made of stainless steel because I managed to melt (yes, actually melt) the plastic head of my cheap £5 Sainsbury's Basics hand blender in some too-hot home made soup. Secondly, I wanted a small and convenient way to shop up food for my toddler, rather than wasting money on a dedicated chopper I'd only use for a year or so and then would go into the back of the cupboard.

      **Price and Availability**

The best place to buy the Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender from is Dunelm Mill (instore or online, P&P charge applies), I paid £19.99 for it which was a real bargain, but currently it's £14.99 which is a steal!

      **What's In the Box**

You get the Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender 'body' (with long flex and wall plug), the blending head (used for soups etc), the whisking head for baking, the chopping attachment and a beaker which the blending head fits into (useful for drinks making).

You also get the instructional manual and 3 year warranty.

      **Uses**

Well, here's a little run down of what you can use the Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender for. There's so much!

      *Blender Attachment*
Soup (straight into the saucepan, doesn't scratch or melt)
Milkshakes and crushed ice drinks (in the beaker supplied)
      Mashed potato
      Baby foods / purees
      Sauces

      *Whisk Attachment*
      Cream
      Cakes and batters
      Whipped desserts
      Meringue

      *Chopper*
      Onions
      Garlic, chillies etc
      Small veg for stews
      Fruits for cakes and flans
      Hoummus

.. and lots more (this is just what I use each one for).

      **Cleaning**

A breeze - the Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender attachments can go right into the dishwasher (or can be washed by hand and fully immersed), and the body can be wiped down with a damp cloth. It's so easy to keep clean, much easier than any model I've owned in the past (and FAR cleaner than my old Kenwood chopper which I've actually now thrown away as it's redundant now!)

      **Storage**

I store my Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender right in a thin drawer, it takes up so little room, even stood up it uses less space than a coffee cup. Because it's so accessible I use it far more often than a big cumbersome chopper.

      **Overall**

I cannot recommend the Red Spectrum Collection 3 in 1 Hand Blender enough and willingly will award it 5 stars out of five. It's well made, affordable, versatile and I can see it lasting me a long time. I've saved lots of money with home made baby foods, soups and stews, and had lovely milkshakes and crushed ice and juice drinks in the summer which has been lovely. I've since recommended this to my family and my friends. It's a key buy for any kitchen and I'm so glad I own it.
