When I moved house I vowed that I would start being healthier; it was going to be a new start. And, once I was settled in I gave this a proper go. One thing that I wanted to supplement my lifestyle change was a blender. For all the recipes that I kept passing up because I couldn't blend and also to make delicious smoothies (smoothies are now my favourite post-workout snack).
I looked in Argos as it is the best place to get anything where I live (we have very limited shopping) and I didn't want to wait for delivery as I had enough of that during the move. I wanted something that had a good brand reputation, held sufficient amount of liquid and had decent reviews while being nicely priced. That is why I came to the Russell Hobbs blender which seemed to tick all my boxes.
*Design and Appearance*
The product comes in white (no other options) with a clear plastic jug. The base is sturdy with non-slip feet and features five buttons. Three speed buttons, a stop button and one that just blends when you press it. The base is easy to clean if you have any spills.
Clipped safely onto the base is the 1.5l, plastic jug. The plastic is of good quality and it does not feel like it would break too easily. It also has liquid measurements on the side which is handy. The blades separate from the base with a little turn to unlock them. The top comes off with a little turn as well. The machine features a safety feature which means that the blender will not switch on unless the lid is securely in place.
I have found this blender to be great at blending even the toughest of foods (including frozen). You just chuck all the stuff you need in and blend away. I have found that if you have bigger chunks of food it sometimes needs more encouragement to get the stuff sitting at the top blended but it does get there eventually. As someone who has never owned a blender before I can only assume that this is not something solely found on this particular blender. It is also a bit noisy but it was what I was expecting. I don't have experience with other blenders to compare this one to.
I mostly use the blender to make smoothies which it does with ease. My typical smoothie recipe is: milk, frozen berries, banana, protein powder, spinach and apple. I then unclip the jug from the base, take the top off and pour into a glass. It is very easy to use. But how does it clean?
This blender is fairly easy to clean. The blades come away from the bottom and are easy to clean in hot, soapy water. The jug itself is easy to clean with hot soapy water as well as the lid. You just have to take care with food catching at the sides but this should be obvious. I find that if I fill it with water before I enjoy my blended food that it is easier to clean. Either way I cannot complain about the ease of cleaning.
I used this blender a lot when I got it. However a year later I am using it less but it still does the job as well as it did when I first got it. A great product. If you are looking for a good quality, blender which does what it says on the tin. Definitely recommended.
