Advantages: Excellent value
Disadvantages: None
I bought my Tesco value handblender around a year ago for £4.99 and it has now dropped in price to £3.89, it is available in some Tesco stores or can be ordered from the Tesco direct catalogue.
The blender is very basic, but you can't really expect anything else for such a small price. It consists of two parts, the main body which has two rubber switches for fast and slow speeds and the part with the blades which is detachable for easy washing.
I know you are not meant to use plastic stick blenders in boiling liquids, but I have used it without incident to blend soups and tomato sauces to make pizza with.
My main use for the blender is to make milkshakes and smoothies. My favourite is banana milkshake, I use the blender to froth the milk and then add the bananas and a little sugar for a fabulous treat. There is a lot of splatter when blending really runny things, I had a beaker that came with my old stick blender and use that but any large jug would do.
I was really impressed when I bought frozen fruit packs for making smoothies that the blender coped with the frozen cubes of fruit mixed with fruit juice as well as a more expensive machine would.
The blender has a 200w motor and is easy to hold and operate. It is fairly quiet to use and feels robust. Its stainless steel blades seem to work as well as they did when I first bought it.
Overall this handblender has been an excellent buy. I'm sure I will upgrade one day to a blender with more functions but for now this one is more than adequate for everyday use.
Summary: A bargain!
