Advantages: Incredibly powerful and versatile, easy to clean

Disadvantages: Pricey!! A bit noisy

I've had my Vitamix for about 3 years now and still use it nearly every day. I haven't had to replace anything and the blades are still very sharp. Its pricey but worth it for a long term investment. You can blend almost anything, hard vegetables and frozen fruits are blended to a smooth puree in seconds.

You can make soup in minutes and if you leave it blending for long enough it will warm it up, whilst preserving all of the nutrients. I put frozen bananas in it with some maple syrup and it turns them into a lovely fluffy icecream in less than a minute. I never thought a blender could make peanut butter but this one can, put any nuts or seeds in, add a little oil and you have lovely fresh nut butter!

I will say that it's a bit noisy but no more than expected for a machine of this power. It's very easy to clean and the jug is very resilient - I've dropped it many times and it's not even cracked slightly.

Summary: Excellent addition to your kitchen, just make sure you use it! (don't worry you will!)

A lot more info would be good here - there are so many blenders on the market that can do very similar things but I've never heard of a blender that can heat up soup - so does this blender have a heating element?

The Vita Mix is a commercial blender so its worthwhile to know:

Whats the wattage?
How much was it that you paid?
Actual jug capacity?
Ability to crush ice?
Dishwasher safe?
Heavy or lightweight generally?
