I use this machine every day (Vita-Mix 5000)

Advantages: very powerful, useful to hide veggies in your kid's food.

Disadvantages: cleaning can be a challange. Price.

I bought this mixer because I was afraid that my four year old son was going to die of scurvy given that he will not eat any veggies or even fruit. The machine absolutely pulverizes carrots into pieces way too small for him to detect in his pizza sauce. I also grind frozen veggies into a fine powder and add them to pancakes and other foods that he will eat. The machine even makes peanut butter! And of course for the grown ups, the margaritas come out as smooth as you can imagine. There are no big chunks of ice to choke on. Safety first!

The only thing I don't like is the cleaning. Some foods can stick to the sides such as bananas and it is recommended that you don't wash it in the dishwasher, which I do anyway because there is no way I'm going to spend the time scrubbing it. There does not yet seem to be any ill effects from my dishwashing and I try to use a mild soap.

It comes with a large recipe book and all of the things I've cooked have turned out great, especially the clam chowder.

The down side is the cost. I paid more for it than most of my large appliances and my husband would flip if he knew how much it was. However, it does have a seven year warranty and I have no regrets about the purchase.

Summary: Overall I am satisfied with this purchase.
