Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash
by Sacheverell
I usually use inexpensive facial wipes to wash my face, because I find them a convenient way of cleansing; I don't like getting water in my eyes whilst trying to wash off eye make-up in the shower, or getting wet sleeves whilst trying to rinse my face in the sink, or having to use flannels.
I treated myself to a Bliss ... selection gift pack after Christmas when it was reduced in Boots to about £10; I'd heard good things about Bliss and I thought the discounted price was a bargain: the samples included were good sizes. It contained the facial wash, a bottle of face mask, a tube of body butter, a bottle of shower gel and a small sachet of facial moisturiser. The usual price for the Fabulous Foaming Face Wash is £17.62 for a 244ml bottle.
I have been using the Face Wash for about 3 weeks every morning in the shower (to avoid the wet sleeves problem). The instructions tell you to apply the product to a wet/damp face, so I did so using my fingers (as I don't like face-cloths). I found only a small amount was needed - a 10 pence piece sized blob. The wash should then be massaged in a circular manner over the neck and face. Despite being called a foaming wash, and containing sodium laureth sulphate as one of the main ingredients, I found that it didn't foam especially well, although the more water I added to my face whilst rinsing it off, the better the foaming action was. It didn't irritate my face, and I did try to use it on my eye area. It didn't irritate that area either, but also didn't remove my (non-waterproof) eye make-up very effectively.
The product is a light blue colour. It's a liquid of medium viscosity, and it smells lovely, although it's only lightly fragranced; it has a bubblegum, fruity sort of scent, much like Aussie Volumising Conditioner.
The packaging of my sample-sized bottle is a transparent bottle with a large white label and a white lid that has a top that is pushed in on one side to create an opening on the other (there must be a name for that sort of lid, but I don't know it!). The label is rather plainly adorned with the name of the product in a simple typeface, and usage instructions and the ingredients. I suppose Bliss aim to make it look somewhat 'professional' and tastefully minimalist.
As I said, I've been using this Face Wash for about three weeks now. My skin is in fairly good condition and has not become dry or irritated, but I don't feel the product has made an amazing difference, either; it hasn't removed any congestion or made my skin amazingly smooth. It claims to have exfoliating properties but I can't feel that, or notice the difference. Considering at its full price it is rather expensive, I thought it would be a more outstanding product, but I feel that Simple or Garnier make better facial washes for a lower price.
In addition, the Fabulous Foaming Face Wash contains sodium laureth sulphate and methlyparaben, both ingredients that some people believe may be rather unhelpful to the skin or possibly even toxic, in the case of parabens. I also feel a colourant is unnecessarily in a skincare product. There are a lot of other ingredients though, such as rosehips, which may be nourishing to the skin.
Here are the ingredients:
Water, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine, glycerin, rose canina (rose hips) leaf extract, silybum marianum (milk thistle) seed extract, passiflora incarnata (passion flower) extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) leaf extract, acetyl hexapeptide-3, PEG-12 glyceryl distearate, cocamide DEA, glucosamine, pentylene, blue 1, fragrance, triethanolamine, methylparaben, methylisothiazolinone.
In conclusion, I won't buy this again, although it's not a bad product. I think for this price I'd want something with more 'natural' ingredients (although what is natural and what is not, and whether certain natural things are good, is a confusing issue!) and better effects. Bliss Lemon + Sage Soapy Sap
by pink_glitter
For my birthday I got a small set of travel size Bliss products. I used two of them, the face wash and the soap and wasn't particularly impressed with either of them, which was disappointing really as I'd been looking forward to trying the Bliss brand for ages. I think given the let downs with the first couple of products I must have ... forgotten about the rest of the set, but when I came across it recently I decided to get it used up.
Bliss Soapy Sap is a lemon and sage scented shower gel. It is described as being skin softening with a clean, citrus scent and ideal for dry/sensitive skin. This sounded ideal for me as my skin is quite dry all year round, but at the moment with all the cold weather it's absolutely terrible, with the dryness turning to patches of eczema, so something suitable for sensitive skin appealed to me!
The bottle it comes in is bright blue with a white flip top lid and a picture of some lemons. I must admit that I think it looks more like a cleaning product than a bubble bath, and I think if you didn't know of the Bliss brand, you would not look at this bottle and think it was expensive.
I had already tried the lemon and sage soap and didn't like the scent, so my expectations were not particularly high when it came to the fragrance. I have to say though, I thought this smelled better than the soap. The soap for me smelled a bit like cut grass when it's begun to get dry and horrible! I thought the Soapy Sap had more of a lemon fragrance to it, but even though I'm usually a lover of anything with a citrus scent, I wasn't overly impressed with the smell of this and thought it was quite average for the price.
The next let down with this product was that it did not produce a huge amount of lather. The gel is a lime green colour and looks nice enough, but even when using a generous amount (quite difficult when you only have a 30ml bottle!) it didn't lather very well and I had to use it with a shower puff to create a few extra bubbles.
For something so expensive I would have expected the lather to at least feel thick and luxurious, but unfortunately it didn't and to me, if there was no label on the bottle this could have been any other £1.99 body wash from the Supermarket.
After using this the scent didn't really stay on my skin, but in fairness my skin did feel quite soft. As mentioned I do have sensitive skin and luckily I didn't find any irritation after using this product. It's also not drying at all, which I'm very thankful for, as someone who suffers from dry skin!
A 250ml bottle of this will set you back £15.66 from Boots. For this price I would have expected the product to be perfect in every way, but for me, there were too many negative points, and there is absolutely no way I would spend so much on this product.
Overall, I'm really sad to say that this was yet another let down from the Bliss range. It's overpriced and although it left my skin soft and didn't irritate, the scent wasn't great and it didn't lather very well, so unfortunately, Soapy Sap gets a thumbs down from me. Read the complete review |
