Advantages: There are none at all unless you are desperate for a Romantic Comedy to watch

Disadvantages: The script, the direction, the acting, the 106 minutes of my life lost forever

After a number of years of unsuccessfully trying to find Mr Right, Zoe decides that her only chance to have a baby is to go through an artificial insemination program. On the day of her successful insemination she meets Sam, a guy who seems to tick all the right boxes and is genuinely interested in her. As they start to build a relationship that works, Zoe has to hide the tell tale signs of pregnancy to make sure that things with Sam are really right. While she was fully prepared to be a single mother she also hopes that maybe Sam will stick around when she tells him, but I'm afraid I won't be telling you anymore about it in this review.

As soon as Jen told me the plot for this movie I thought she was joking about us watching it together. I'm afraid to say though that she wasn't and when you combine the plot with the fact it started Jennifer Lopez I was even less keen but being a good husband I sat down and endured the 106 minutes of supposed comedy. Now as you may realise from reading my previous reviews I'm now quite experienced, although it pains me to admit it, when it comes to the romantic comedy genre, but this has to rank as one of the worst films I've seen in a long time.

When you consider that the director behind this movie, Alan Poul, was responsible for a number of episodes of hit TV series Six Feet Under and Rome there was a chance this could be a reasonable film. It turned out though that any chance it had evaporated quite quickly as it followed the well worn and unoriginal path of girl meets boy, they fall in love, something bad happens to split them up and then they all live happily ever after. While I can accept a need for this type of storyline I've not seen one in a long time that has been so lazy at meeting the tried and tested formula.

In fact the direction is pretty nonexistent as the plot is allowed to just wind away through a number of instantly recognizable romantic comedy moments. While I've come to accept that this formula works on a number of movies this one seemed to have just been made for the sake of making a film. The plot might have worked if the movie had been directed, produced and written slightly better but instead it is incredibly slow and predictable. I feel almost guilty classing the movie as a comedy as the funny moments were few and far between and rather cruelly the best of them all involved Jennifer Lopez's crippled dog.

Now I'm sure most people would say I deserved to sit through an hour and 40 minutes of this as I already knew what it would be like simply by looking at the cast. As expected Jennifer Lopez really wasn't up to much in the lead role and that now makes it 4 of her movies I've seen and I've yet to see her in a good one. The role seemed very stale and there was no real attempt to make Zoe stand out. In fact at times it was hard to really care who the main actress in the movie was and on many occasions I found myself wondering why she'd even been cast.

Perhaps the worst element of the whole movie though was the lack of chemistry between her character and Sam played by Alex O'Loughlin. We as viewers were expected to believe that these two were meant for each other but the relationship, a bit like Lopez's acting abilities just felt lifeless and cold. While Lopez was the supposed star I thought that O'Loughlin actually put in a better performance, apart from the love scene's, and really stole the show. Of course that's not really saying much when the second best performance in the movie was by and dog and no I don't mean Jennifer Lopez for those jumping to conclusions.

Of course it's inevitable that a number of people are going to end up watching this and it would be fair to say that the majority of those people are going to be female. For the sake of the males out there though my final advice would honestly be don't watch it, but if you have to then please make sure it's a night your boyfriend, fiancé or husband are down the pub so they don't have to suffer. It seems almost fitting that Jen actually enjoyed the movie whist I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than have to watch it again, so this is certainly a romantic comedy for the girls.

Summary: A poor addition to a popular market place
