Starting at the beginning, an immediate issue is the start up time. From the time you press the on button on the remote it takes at least 30 seconds, and if you put in a dvd or bluray disk you are looking at the same again. It may not sound like much, but when you are looking at a blank screen for this long it seems like ages. Having said this everything else is great. It plays blurays with top quality and the highest audio quality. It also plays videos of USBs, and you can see photos from you digital camera by inserting the memory card. These features are really nice additions. Another great feature is that it is web enabled. At the moment this means you can search for and watch youtube videos through it if you connect it to the internet. More applications are coming in the future as well which enhances its use from a simple dvd or bluray player. However to make this work you have to have a LAN line trailing across your floor as there is no option to use wireless interenet yet. This is a downside as you won't want ot leave a wire across your floor all day so you will have to keep on reconnecting it if you want to use the web feature. Finally, another bonus is that it has an in film menu. Basically when you press the button for menu a toolbar comes up across the bottom of the screen with various options like changing the audio or language of the film. This is great as you can carry on watching the film as you change the options and you won't lose your place in the film.
I've had 2 Blu Ray players and this is the best one so far. After the Sharp BD-HP20H stopped reading discs (look on Google for this player's 'invalid disc' issue), I purchased this. With it's ability to surf and play youtube clips, full 1080p/24hrz picture and the ability to decode PCM sound, it's great value for money. Loading times for discs are reasonable, around 11 seconds. It also upscales standard dvd's to 1080p, although it's no match when compared to true BR quality but it still shows pleasing results. It accepts standard HDMI as connection for sound and pic from your HDTV. I have a 5.1 surround sound speaker setup with dipole speakers and the sound you get with this player is phenomenal! I would actually say that the main advantage BR has is the sound even more than the picture quality, but that's just me. Anyway, get this player, you can't go wrong...it may be a bit on the expensive side but it's worth it....trust me!
PHL reference chroma processor plus is a high quality image-processing technology developed by Panasonic to precisely process each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the vertical direction. It reproduces color data with twice the accuracy of conventional systems to keep colors faithful and sharp.
Panasonic's developed high-precision 4:4:4 signal technology also processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction, to complement vertical direction processing. When viewed on a VIERA high-end model, which features 4:4:4 signal compatibility, it recreates images with the original film quality to further enhance movie enjoyment.
Because these models are compatible with the VIERA CAST function, you can access YouTube, Picasa, and other Internet sites from the special VIERA CAST screen. YouTube lets you watch the newest video clips, and Picasa lets you view web-based photos. You can also check weather and stock information on other sites.
The Blu-ray Disc players feature decoders that are compatible with all of the latest 7.1-channel surround sound formats used by the Blu-ray Disc standard.
