Advantages: Great picture and sound
The Pioneer BDP-120 Blu Ray Player is a bargain, we got ours as part of the deal to buy our television and surround sound in Comet, but it retailed for £229 on its own. The Player is available in most good electrical stores, with Comet and Curries definitely having some, as we looked at both places before purchasing.
Putting it together:
This is a surprisingly easy and straightforward process, I have to admit to not reading the instructions, but it was still pretty easy. You plug the power lead into an available outlet and into the back of your DVD player and then link up the scart lead to your television, or DVD player. You can also add surround sound, although we kept ours attached to the television. Batteries are included in the package for the remote control and once you find the right channel on your television your ready to roll.
What does it look like:
Like a small thin rectangular black box, its streamlined, sleek and thin, much thinner than a dvd player, it has small feet underneath to avoid damaging surfaces. There is a small Pioneer logo in the top left hand corner and play, stop and pause buttons underneath, these are pretty much all you need on the player as the remote has too many buttons anyway. On the right hand side you have the area to place the Blu ray in and below it the area where it explains in LED lighting what is happening, advising whether something is playing or what sound option is selected.
The remote control is thorough, I have no idea what the majority of buttons actually do, but the usual suspects work a treat and i've mastered the sound control but not yet slow motion. The manual is too large and intimidating looking and it lost me simply by its size.
How does it play:
Well we wired up the sound, put in a smash, bang wallop film (Transformers) and were amazed at the quality of the picture and the sound, its the kind of system where you prepare some treats, switch the lights off and make it a real cinematic experience, combined with an HDTV and good surround sound this is well worth having, it has full HD Playback, USB connectivity, 1080 Upscaling for picture quality and really is a good bit of kit. We are cutting back on Cinema visits and using Lovefilm more and more, well why go out for a burger when you can eat Steak at home??
