I've been using this player for over a month and, overall, I'm pleased with it. The first thing you notice about the unit is its size. It is tiny and well made and it's really very aesthetically pleasing. Most of the unit is constructed of metal with a plastic front and top segment. It's an unusual shape so you will not be able to rest anything on top. There is a single rocker switch on the top allowing for on/off operation and eject. Everything else is controlled from the small remote which is quite angular and functional, rather than ergonomically designed. There is a small (less that laptop size) outboard power supply and a USB socket at the front.
The unit has a single coaxial socket to hook up to your amplifier but there is no optical output which is a shame.
On a positive note the picture quality from Netflix/Amazon Prime (now working which it wasn't when I first got the machine) Blu-Ray and DVD is excellent as is the sound; Netflix support DD 5.1 output. Both iplayer and Netflix output HD which looks sharp, even when blown up on my projector. The unit also supports Now TV, as well as numerous other streaming video and music services. The user interface is the standard Sony xross media bar, similar to the PS3. It's OK, but not as neat as more modern interfaces.
Please also remember that this is not wi-fi enabled, so you will need to hard wire this to a router to use the streaming services.
The machine is silent in operation when not spinning a disc. I believe this to be a fan-less design. When you are watching a disc, there is a small audible whir from the disc spinning. (This is not noticeable when watching a film)
Overall, an excellent machine.
