Chad Valley Oopsie Daisy Game
by maggieleung The Oopsie Daisy Game is one of a Chad Valley range of toys, which used to be sold in Woolworths before they closed down their retail stores. Chad Valley make a wide variety of toys and are usually very reasonably priced. The Chad Valley range is still available to buy at Argos. The game is for 2 to 4 players with a a recommended age ... of 4+. I will now give you a run down on this game and my family's experience and reactions to it. ---PRICE--- I bought this game for only £2.99 at an Argos store which, at the time, I considered to be a real bargain. This was discounted from the original selling price which was £5.99. ---PACKAGING AND CONTENTS--- This game comes in a very brightly coloured box with an attractive picture of the game at the front of the box. This makes it look immediately interesting and appealing to a child. Contents are: Games Base x 1 Daisy leaf cups x 4 Daisy flower x 1 Plug x 1 Daisy spring stem x 1 Daisy chance cards x 16 Marbles x 40 ---ASSEMBLY AND USER INSTRUCTIONS--- Assembly was quite straight forward and my 4 year old daughter managed to help to partly assemble it. We snapped the four leaf cups into the sides of the base. An adult or older child would have to do this as you need to push quite strongly to snap them into place. The Daisy is then fixed into the middle using the plug and spring. This part was easy and my daughter enjoyed being able to manage this part by herself. User instructions are easy to follow. It explains that the object of the game is to be the first to successfully balance all of your marbles on the daisy wthout tipping it over. Each player is given 10 marbles which you place in your leaf cup. Four daisy chance cards are also dealt to each player. These cards come with a specific instruction to either take marbles off or put marbles on the daisy. I thought the user instructions were clearly laid out and there were also some tips on strategy when playing the game. ---OUR EXPERIENCES--- My child was instantly excited when she opened this particular present on Christmas morning due to the bright and interesting packaging, and immediately wanted to try it out. However this excitement was short lived as this game is very badly designed! The aim is to try to place the marbles on to the daisy without making it topple over. If it topples, the marbles fall into the base and the player has to keep them. The problem with this game is that the daisy seemed to slant to one side so that no matter where you placed your marbles, they will automatically roll on to the same two petals at that side. This led to the daisy very quickly toppling over and therefore made it impossible for anyone to use up all of their marbles, which is supposed to be the aim of the game! This of course meant that this game never ever ended up with any winner. My child understandably got quite frustrated with the way this game was proceeding and quickly abandoned it to play with something else. ---OUR VERDICT--- Since then we have only played the game 3 more times (which my child had to be persuaded to do as she had already delegated this game to to bottom of the toy box). Each time we ended up with the same result, with the daisy becoming imbalanced due to the poor design of the product. I think if the spring had been a bit more sturdy, perhaps it would have solved the problem? However, as it stands, the game fails on the suspense factor (which is what that sort of game is supposed to be all about) as it typically toppled over after only 6 or 7 marbles were placed on it. Furthermore, even if this problem was sorted, I don't think this game wold hold the interest of a child for long as it is incredibly boring and far too predictable. The daisy chance cards only give you 2 possiblities - either to 'put' on or 'take off' marbles which gives this game very little scope and a score of zero in the fun factor category. The suggested age group is age 4+ and it is unsuitable for under 3 years of age because of the marbles. However I don't think a child of any age would have fun with this game. My child now refuses to play it so it will soon be going to the nearest charity shop. ---CONCLUSION--- I give the Oopsie Daisy Game one star but it barely deserves that, even at the bargain price of £2.99. But if I had payed the full price which was £5.99, I would consider that to be very poor value for money as there is a lot of fun, quality children's games for £5 out there. I don't recommend the Oopsie Daisy game to anyone out there, but suggest that you spend a couple of pounds more to get a decent game. Thank you for spending the time to read my review. Chad Valley Hooked
by ally_kats_mama We purchased this Chad Valley Hooked game for my daughter last Christmas. She loves these sort of fishy games and at the time it was on offer in Argos for £4.79 so it was a bargain price for little Xmas present. I remember having a similar game when I was younger but mine came from the Ideal Home exhibition if I remember ... rightly. I was always playing it and remembered having a great deal of fun whilst I did so I thought it would be nice for my daughter to have a updated version of a game from my childhood. The game comes in a brightly coloured Chad Valley box with a real picture of the product on the front and a cartoon shark holding a fishing rod - my daughter loved the look of this shark! Once you finally get into the packaging, you will find 12 coloured fish (pink, yellow and red), 3 rods of the same colours and the blue base which the fish go on. What surprised me about this game was that it had indeed been updated from when I was little. When I had it, the little fish were in holes and went round in circles in a "pond" and used to open and close their mouths and you used to have to try and hook them out whilst they had their mouths open. With this version, the fish are placed on to the blue base which is magnetic as are the bottoms of the fish and they shoot around the base really quickly! They are really fast too! There are two different ways to play this game which I thought was a good idea. The first way is just a simple case of each player trying to get all their colour fish first and whoever does this is the winner. The other game Chad Valley have created is that in the box there are some numbered stickers in the box which you stick on the bottom of each of the fish. Once all the fish have been collected each player adds up the numbers on the bottom of the fish whoever has the highest score wins. My daughter absolutely loves this game and it has been a real firm favourite with her for a few months now. She always gets it out to play it and sometimes she will play it with her teddies which is very cute! This is a battery operated game and takes 1x C battery. Highly recommended! A bagain priced game which is fun for all the family. Read the complete review |

Chad Valley Hooked
by newby2 Chad Valley Hooked..... Chad Valley are now selling there toy range through Argos rather than before when they were based in the Woolworth's stores. This particular game is selling for £6.99 p in Argos at the moment but I think there was some sort of special offer on when we purchased it a good year or so ago now so we ... paid less than £5 for it. I wanted this game in particular as I though it was the same as one I used to have when I was growing up and thoroughly enjoyed. Getting the toy home and set up ready for use didn't really take much time or effort and the only tricky bit was getting into the cardboard box and the cellophane wrappers inside which kept all the fishes safe. The game is battery operated and these were included in the box when we bought it which is always a bonus. The game is pretty simple and up to three people can play at any one time. The object of the game is to catch all your fish first! Simple. You have a coloured fishing rod and this matches up with the coloured fish which are swimming about on the "pond" (the main piece of the game). Chad Valley have also included numbered stickers which you can stick to the bottom of the fish and this makes way for a variation of the game where the points on the stickers are added up and the winner is the one with the highest score. This games is slightly different to the one which I had when I was younger in the way that the fish on this game move about the board via a magnetic current meaning they dash randomly all across the place. My game used to have holes where the fish would move round with the pond opening and closing their mouths so you had to try to catch them with their mouths open. I have since picked up a 99 p wind up small version of the game I once had and jack seems to like this more than this larger more expensive one, typical! Jack however does enjoying playing this game with me and he is pretty good at it too. This considering he has only just turned 3 and the age range on this particular game is 4+. The fish are not overly easy too hook onto the fishing line so a lot of the time he does turn the power off and cheat a little! I sometimes let him! Lol All in all the game is a good one. The price is affordable and it is enjoyable to play for the hole family (or at least 3 people) It is made to a good standard and I am glad we have it in our collection. 5 out of 5 star rating and a high recommendation Many thanks for taking the time to read. I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you Read the complete review |
