Absolute Balderdash is another board game from the "Balderdash" stable.
As a family we buy a new board game each Christmas as we enjoy sharing precious family time. You can be glued to the telly any time!
Last year there were so many good games on the market that we had difficulty choosing one. Eventually we settled on "Absolute Balderdash" and we have never regretted it!
This is a super game. It is good at best, but after a few drinks it takes on a whole new dimension!
The game is designed for 2- 20 plus people. They provide pieces for up to eight people so if you want to play with more you will have to borrow pieces from another game to supplement them.
This is a bluffing game and is designed for age 12 upwards.
In the box is a board with a spinner, playing pieces (eight, as I just said), question cards and sheets on which to write your name and your answers. Plain paper does the job perfectly well, so don't be worried about running out!
The Object of the Game:
One player (called the Dasher) reads out a question from a card and each player must write down an answer. All the answers are handed to the dasher who shuffles them and reads out the answers. Each player must try to guess the correct answer. Your score moves you along the board. There are points awarded for guessing correctly - well, that was obvious, wasn't it!
There are also points to any player who has managed to persuade other players that there answer was the right one.
Simple, eh? Now, depending on the ingenuity of the players this can be very funny indeed. I suppose it is a bit like Call My Bluff, if any of you remember that.
Each person has a turn at being the dasher. If nobody guesses the correct answer then the dasher gets two points.
QUESTION CATEGORIES:
Words: What is the definition of this word?
People: what is this person famous for?
r>Initials: what do they stand for?
Movies: What is the basic plot?
Laws: complete the law.
The person who has won a turn gets to spin, and the spinner chooses the next category.
Scoring: You score one point for every vote your answer receives.
You score one for guessing the correct answer.
You score two if your bluff is very near to the correct answer.
HOW DO YOU WIN?
The winner is the first player past the finishing post on the board.
IF PLAYING WITH FOUR OR LESS PLAYERS:
If you only have a few players it is not so successful. The best way is for the dasher to also add a bluff answer as this makes the real answer less obvious. To be honest, though, some of the real answers are absolutelt ridiculous!
If playing with adults and a few drinks it can get a bit spicy, but that is all part of the fun.
It is impossible to do this game justice in an opinion. It is one of those things you just have to try! Let me leave you with one of our bluffs: can you guess the correct answer?
Word: VAGITIS
Answers:an unpleasant gynaecological disorder
someone who has a problem with day dreaming
a nasty rash
a Greek island
a cry of a new born baby
Go on, have a go! If you also are on Ciao the answer is in my guest book, if not scroll down below this op!
Let me know if you got it right!
Merry Christmas Gaming!
The cry of a new born baby. I bet you didn't know that before! I certainly didn't.
