Backgammon is a board game that has been played in some form for possibly five thousand years, it was definitely played by the Ancient Greeks and the Romans. The game as it is played today is from 17th century England, and that is when it got the name backgammon. It is thought that the doubling cube was not introduced until the 1920's. Backgammon is one of those fantastic games that you can master quickly and show off your skill. I've been playing it since i was a little girl and it came as a surprise to me that not only had my partner never played it, he'd never heard of it! Have you ever played Backgammon? It really is ace. I was taught how to play in about 10 minutes on holiday about 5 years ago. Since then, I have been hooked. Its for 2 players and involves counters of 2 different colours (normally Black and White) and a board . Backgammon type games have existed for thousands of years, evidence of its existence during Greek and Roman times for example is common. However, the game did not actually come to Britain until after 1025, thought to have been brought to England by men returning from the Crusades.
