Advantages: Easy to learn, Almost impossible to master

Backgammon is a great game. I am an intelligent kind of guy, I beat most of my family at backgammon when we play, and many of my friends. But I am useless at the game. Why? Because it is such a simple game that my Palm Pilot hand-held computer can beat me!

Embarrassing I know, but this is the simple truth of the game. Whilst many novices think that it is easy, and a game of chance, they could not be more wrong.

Why do good players (and Palm Pilots) always throw the numbers they need? Because they have put themselves in a position where most throws are good for them. Can I do that? When I have practised a lot, yes. When I practice I can beat the Palm nine times out of ten. When I am off form it beats me six out of ten.

So the next time you are thrashed at this elegant wonderful game, don’t blame the dice. Watch and learn from someone who is playing it right, and NEVER take a double!
