Advantages: Fun, makes you competitive, doesn't get boring, May help children learn new words
Disadvantages: When you shake the letters it can be a little noisy! But that is it!
The first time I played this game was at school about 10 years ago and I've kept going on about it to my boyfriend since Christmas as we had ran out of board games and things to play on a rainy day.
About a month ago on a Sunday evening, I was pleasantly surprised when I met up with my boyfriend as he told me he had bought this game from a car boot sale, for just 50p! I was so excited to play it (I know that sounds really sad) even though I couldn't remember how to!
So basically it's a 3-minute word game. You have a box containing letter cubes that you shake and it jumbles them up and then you straighten them all out (make them level). You then have about 3 minutes to make as many words (which must be of three letters or more) as you can out of the letters in the cube grid, as long as they are adjacent to each other.
You get certain points depending on how long the word is i.e. three/four letters is 1 point, five letters is two points, six letters is three points etc. Obviously the winner is the person who collects the most points. We usually play first to 50 or 100.
It's actually so much fun playing this game, particularly when there's the two of you as it can get really quite competitive! But I am having to refer to a dictionary now as I sometimes invent new words or don't actually know if they're real!
I would imagine it's quite good for younger children as well as they can learn new words (a dictionary would help them as well). Families could play it as well, there's no limit of people that can play really!
So really it's suitable and easy to play for people of all ages!
Its actually quite easy to carry around as well - there's not too much equipment involved unlike other games like monopoly.
I don't think this game is just for clever people/swots as I'm not really one of them! But I suppose some people may get bored by it (but I don't think I ever will).
I definitely think it's worth keeping your eyes peeled for this game on eBay and if you go to car boot sales as you can pick it up really cheap like I did.
This game can become so addictive but I really think a lot of people would love it! Its definitely worth those few pennies!
Summary: A great little game for all the family, very addictive!

- 18/05/09 My wife and I also play it, but not as regularly as Scrabble, I believe, because she fancies her chances against me more with the latter than the former, . . . and I, of course, pretend to be none the wiser concerning her particular choice between these 2 games. |
