Advantages: addicitive, fun, educational, good for children's literacy, faster and better than scrabble

Disadvantages: too addictive!

What's Boggle? Its a highly addictive word game with lettered dice and an egg timer. It comes with 25 dice set up in a grid of 5 by 5. The object is to make as many words as you can in a set time period (2-3 mins). The only catch is that you must start from any one lettered dice and go in any horizontal or vertical direction adjacent and without using the same letter twice. All words must be in a named English dictionary - to save fights and arguments between players. The longer the word the greater the score! The minimum lettered word you are offically allowed is 4! When playing with children we let them use 3 or more letters. Sometimes we play minimum of 5 letters. Its very addictive, educational and uses a bit of the old grey matter inside your head. Its a great game for all the family. It's an excellent aid for assisting children with literacy. It is also very quick and easy to use, so children with a short concentration/attention span will suit this more than say scrabble. It comes both as a physical game and a PC computer game, although this opinion is based solely on the actual game. It can be played anywhere because its self contained within its box - at home, at a party, in the car or on a plane!

We play a similar game called "tangleword" at http://www.playsite.com which allows you to play boggle on-line against other users through out the world. This is also highly recommended, but it uses both american and english dictionaries. In which case, if you not adverse to the american spellings your scores won't be so high.

Its highly recommended for all people who like word games!
