Advantages: Good Thinking Game, Good fun, adaptable
Disadvantages: Too many people have different rules
For all you people who loved to see how many words you could make out of "Constantinople" when you were 10, Boggle is a family word game on a par with Scrabble, Countdown and Word Yahtzee, only more accessible for younger players. Boggle is basically a box with 25 dice. Each die has six letters on it instead of numbers - one on each side. The box is shaken to scramble the letters, then set down so the the dice lie side by side in a 5 by by square of letters. The object of the game is to find as many words of four letters or more within this square. Words must start at one letter then move in any direction to a touching letter to continue the word. Letters cannot be used more than once for each word. Scrabble rules apply to permitted words - no proper nouns, words must be in the dictionary. Players are given points according to how long each word is and how many other people also found that word. Boggle is great because it is adaptable. Depending on the age and abilities of the players "allowances" can be made, or rules can be set to make the game harder. Making the Game Easier ====================== - Do not use the timer - Allow words of three letters - Allow letters to be used morew than once - Letters to not have to touch to make up words. Making the Game Harder ====================== - Use the Timer - Only allow words of 5 letters or more - Words are only allowed in singular OR plural, not both. Boggle is one of those games you don't get bored of - because every game is different, and some of the words people come up with that actually are words in the dictionary can be hilarious.
