Advantages: very fun and kills time

Disadvantages: gets quite loud

I think that in our house this was a game we got every christmas for a couple of years. It was a pretty useful as it kept myself and my 2 brothers and sister occupied for absoloute ages due to how addictive we found it. You might be tricked into thinking that we had about 5 different sets of it but in fact, down to the extreme violence we put into it after a few months each of the games ended up broken and missing the little white balls.

The manufacturers state that the game is suitable for children aged between 3 and 6, although I find it is perfectly acceptable for adults to also join in. It is better played with 4 people in mind but it also works just as well if there's only 2 of you. The actual object of the game is to get your designated hippo to 'eat' as many of the white balls as possible. The winner is the person who has the most balls in their little section.

Each hippo has a little lever on the back of its head which you press down manically, by doing so you are opening and shutting the hippos mouth. Once you have released the small balls into the middle of the game board at exactly the same time all players press hard on their levers so that the balls start to move quickly all over the place. Because you are doing this so quickly it isn't hard for you to collect them in your hippo.

The game design is simple-4 plastic hippos at different corners, purple, orange, yellow and green. In some sets they do have different shades to pick from.

This is not one to play if you are suffering from a headache as it does get loud when you've got levers being bashed violently and balls rolling about all over the place. There are no tips on how to grab as many marbles as possible, this is one game which is completely based on luck. There is practically no set up involved really and each game will probably only last a few minutes. If that.

You can get this for £12.99 from the toysrus website and there's also a travel edition which you can buy from play.com for just under £5.

This is a great game and no child should miss out on the chance to play it, or adult.
