Advantages: Fast and furious

Disadvantages: Play is by nature rough, so easily broken

Hungry Hippos will be enjoyed by young children, pretty much as soon as they are old enough not to swallow the balls. Older children will also enjoy it in short bursts as each game can be over in a matter of seconds so they might not want to play it for that long at once.

It consists of four plastic hippos facing each other over the playing area. Lots of little white balls are dumped in the middle then all there is to it is to press the lever on the back of the hippo as fast as you can. This moves his head forward to eat the balls and the winner is the one who has eaten the most balls once they are all gone.

Games are fast paced and furious which can result in broken levers, which means that hippo can't be used. Our set only had three working hippos but as there were only two of us who wanted to play that wasn't too much of a problem. The little balls are easily lost and if you lost too many of them the game would be a bit quick and not so good.

For added interest you could try playing with two hippos each.

Summary: Good for boisterous children with a short attention span
