Advantages: Novelty game play

Disadvantages: balls are prone to gettig lost.

Hungry hippos was re-discovered by me and my 4 year old girls at a car boot sale while on holiday. Although my twins had no idea what the aim of the game was, the fact that there was hippos on the box was enough to win their undivided attention.

The game was first released around 20 years ago and has been hovering on every major retailers shelves ever since. it consists of 4 hippos with levers attatched to their backs that you press frantically to get the hippo to open and close it's mouth while swallowing as much food (small white balls) as it can. The player with the most balls once they have all been eaten is the winner.

It's of fairly sturdy but basic construction and has so far withstood to the test of children and the novelty factor has stayed since it was bought. I think the nostalgia possibly made me view the game through rose tinted glasses as an adult but the kids are still playing it with great delight 3 months on.

In conclusion I would still say the game is worth buying of from a car boot sale but not full price at any shop.

Summary: Good solid family entertainment. (for an hour)
