Why on earth would I want to review Chess? Everyone knows what a good game Chess is, right? Well, it occurs to me that with Chess, the same thing may have happened to other people as happened to me. I use to be an eager chess player as a child, playing my brother repeatedly, taking part in Chess club at school and eventually even going in for a couple of tournaments (I got thrashed but had fun). the trouble is its a complex game and to improve, especially as a child (ina pre internet era) its not always obvious what book to read to help you out and I ended up becoming a frustrated novice player. Gradually my love of chess got lost in the mists ... Read the complete review

Intro: Ok, now where do you start with Chess, probably the greatest strategy game ever. I have broken this review down into two parts, the basic rules and my opinion on the game. I am not going into two many details on the basic rules as it is too complicated and would take too long to go into everything, but hope that you will get an idea of what the basic gameplay is. My opinion is quite clear what that involves, but I tell you now that it will be very positive as I love this game. This is long review because the rules of the game are so complex, so if you know the basics then just read my opinion which will give you my ... Read the complete review

I have mixed feelings about chess. Some people love it, some people have no time for it. I suppose I learned to play when I was about eleven or twelve; I liked it initially because it's a game of pure skill, and I'm easily bored by games of luck. I like the little pieces, and I like the basic simplicity of the rules. However.. I'm not much of a forward-thinker, and when I'm playing against the kind of person who spends half an hour over each move, my mind wanders so far that I rather lose the plot by the time it's my turn. But perhaps I'm leaping too far ahead... there may be people reading this who have never played the game. ... Read the complete review

I like being stimulated and stretched and also having a good workout. I don't just mean physically but mentally as well. It's why I love good conversation (well arguments), writing, working on problems and - don't you dare groan - chess. Chess and red wine go together like bread and cheese, male and female or whatever else takes your fancy. If I'm playing with my BoyFriend I also like to have a good sing-a-long CD blaring out as I rally my troops and charge head first into battle. He makes a move and I sing a duet with Shania, "Okay, so you're Kasparov. That don't impress me much ..." Actually this doesn't really ... Read the complete review

You do NOT need to become a nerd to improve your chess skills. In fact, you may be adversely affected. Sorry nerds. If you are a nerd, there's some advice in this piece for you. (Get a life. Oops. Only joking.) But this opinion has been written for ordinary people, who wouldn't want to shut themselves away from humanity for an eternity, sharpening their chess skills. This is an OPINION about chess - the rules are complex and would ruin a perfectly (very) useful op if cited here. I'm assuming you can play the game, but are frustrated at not being especially good. I'm no grandmaster myself, but used to play competitively. ... Read the complete review
