Advantages: Fun strategy game

Disadvantages: Needs 4 players in my opinion

Cluedo is a challenging thinking game which I have enjoyed playing in the past however because you really need at least four players to make it interesting (it could be played with three) it is not a game I get to play very often. It is a murder mystery game where the winner is the person who correctly deduces three bits of information, who the murderer is, wha weapon was used and in what room the murder was committed.

The game board is set out as a series or rooms and each player will play as one of the potential killers with such character names as Miss Scarlatt or Professor Plum. There are a set of cards, one for each character plus one for each potential weapon, e.g. lead pipe, gun etc and one for each of the rooms in the house. These are split into three piles. At the start of the game one card is selected from each pile at randon and placed in a card holder, these are the three answers, the rest of the cards and dstributed amongst the players. You then mark these off from a sheet you have as you know these are not the answers. Play then involves players moving around the board following a dice shake and once in a room you can ask a question of one player, the idea is to reduce the choices so that you can identify the eventual answer.

This is a fun strategy game which I do like to play, it is quite challenging to play and gets you thinking. It is also a lot more fun the more players that you have as the cards are more spread out, naturally you also hear the answers of the other players however part of the strategy could be to ask about an item you know is not right as it is in your possession, that can mislead other players in the game.

As I have said earlier the only real problem with this game is the fact that deally it is better with at least four players and in my opinion is suitable for players aged over 10 although bright younger players could probably play it as well.

Summary: Murder mystery game.

We were talking about this at Christmas - it's one of the few board games we don't have.
