Advantages: A classic fun game that is truly exciting to play
Disadvantages: It is only a board game after all!
The classic "Who dunnit" game. During our annual outing down to Cornwall, it was raining, the water pelted against the windows. Generally outside was erupting into a storm. It was a particularly gloomy atmosphere. The fire was beginning to dwindle away, and the house fell cold. Suddenly a power cut. We fell into darkness; TV stripped of its life force. It was scary. A flash of lightning revealed the room to me. I saw shadows skipping over the walls like dark dancers. Only then was I aware of another presence in the room. I felt it creeping up on me. I turned. There it was a hefty candlestick wielded in its hand. The candlestick flew down towards me. BANG, it landed on the table. And the room was alight! "Thanks, now we can actually see" "What shall we do then?" Out of inspiration, I thought of the games cupboard, a useful play area for when the TV was really abysmal, or in a power cut situation such as this. So, there were four of us, sitting round the table playing the first game I pulled from the store. Cluedo. I am guessing that nearly all of you that are reading this have played Cluedo before, so explaining the game would be a bit pointless. But I will anyway! Cluedo was invented over half a century ago and is one of those games that will always be known. Effectively, you are a detective that wants to find out "who dunnit". You do this by deducting who did not do it! This is possible by seeing cards that are shared around the players. Not only do you have to find out who did it, but also you must find out with what did they do it, and where. Each player receives a shared amount of the cards. Each card has an item, and tells the player that this item (be it either a person, weapon or place) was not part of the murder. The players take turns moving round the board, guessing who did it. The player n
ext to them then shows them a card that proves that it was not this hypothesis. So, by power of deduction you can work out the answer. It is all good classic board game fun. But it is not as simple as that, to make sure you are the first to get the right answer, you must use cunning tactics. Look at facial expressions as players receive cards, use devious guesses to put opposing players off the track. Or if all else fails, you can always cheat! I expect, that this game is in every house, hidden away somewhere. But it really is the best fun you can have in a candle lit, no TV, house. I definately recommend it. And now you can buy it in travel, electronic and every other way versions as well! Great fun
