Advantages: Easy to play, family fun, lasts around 10 minutes so time for more than one game

Disadvantages: Only 2 people can play

Connect 4 is a game we play as a family quite regularly and more often than not I find myself losing! It's a strategic game with a very simple aim.

There are two sets of coloured pieces so it can only be played by 2 players. One player has the yellow pieces and the other has red but as there are no strict rules about playing the game either player can start.

The frame is made of plastic and you slot your pieces into the top with the intention of getting 4 pieces in a row. This isn't as easy as it seems as both players take it in turns to place a piece onto the board so it is quite easy to block your opponent. Thinking ahead is a definite must if you want to play the game. The board has the added extra of a quick release button at the bottom so once you have a winner, all of the pieces will drop out so there is no need to take the frame apart.

I've played this game a different way then mentioned and instead of stopping play once you get to 4 pieces, we carry on until all pieces are in the board. The player with the most rows of 4 wins the game. This extends the life of the game and means there is less fiddling around with the pieces. It also means there is a chance for everyone to win rather than whoever gets there first.

The game usually lasts around 10 minutes with a recommended age of 6+. However, i've played this game with my 3 year old and he loves it so as long as they can count and have a general understanding of the game, there shouldn't be a problem.

Summary: I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has children and enjoys games.
