An old classic - but why did they have to mess with it! (Hasbro Connect 4)

Advantages: Gets children thinking logically.

Disadvantages: Not as sturdy as it used to be.

It is great that all these games I had as a child are still about allowing my children to play with them.

Obviously connect 4 is exactly the same as it always has been but for those that do not know here is a brief explanation.

You choose a colour chip between red and yellow. You then take it in turns to place a chip in one of the columns. The aim of the game is to outwit your competitor and get 4 chips next to each other in a row either diagonally, horizontally or vertically. Although this sounds easy for anyone who has ever played or played noughts and crosses then you will know that it depends on the skills of your competitor.

This in my opinion is a great game to get your child thinking logically as you have to try and determine where next your competitor may go or if they are near to getting 4 in a row having to block them. Although for us adults this is easy for children they tend to think about the quickest way they can get 4 in a row rather than the other person.

My only disappointed with the new connect 4 is the quality is not as good as the old one. It is not very sturdy and falls apart really easily from the stand that it just slots into. Also the release lever at the bottom is awful and gets stuck sometimes. The columns are not as clear as they used to be and as a result if you place the counters in wrong then they get stuck and you have to manually get them out. All these for me let the game down such a shame they had to mess with what was a good game.

Summary: For the price I think any child should have this game as it is a nice quick game.
