Advantages: A fun and easy game to play

Disadvantages: Only a two player

This one the game of my childhood! My brother and I would spend hours and hours trying to beat each other in a 'battle of the coins' but woe betide the winner who would need to take refuge in the nearest piece of furniture as quickly as possible whilst the loser hurtled red and yellow coins at them to vent their anger!

The game consists of a plastic blue grid with circular holes in it. Each player takes it in turns to slot a coin into the grid and try to get a line of four coins in a row either horizontally, up, down or across. The players can use their coins to block each others move and stop each other from making a row. The winner is of course the first one to get a line of four.

I love the fact that this game is so simple and uses the same principal as 'Noughts and Crosses' which is also a very simple game but gets the mind going.

The thing about this game is although the concept is rather simple, you can't loose concentration for a second or you will end up missing something and loosing.

I love the fact that you can't determine what is going to happen because you could see an opportunity very clearly but the other player could post their coin in the place that you wanted to go so you have to rethink. There are however occasions where the other player doesn't see and you can feel your heart racing and I always try not to give away a smile although I am not very good at keeping my 'poker face' at these moments and the other player will always have a second look.

The only downside to this game is the fact that it's only a two player which can make things a bit boring if you have a group of people around but sometimes if both of the players are on the ball then it can come to a dead end without anyone winning. This hasn't happened very often in my experience but it does happen and can leave the players feeling a little frustrated and deflated.

Over all this is a great game for children and adults alike and will cost you around £10.

Summary: A timeless classic
