Advantages: Quick game time, suitable for all ages, more than 6 players if you're creative
Disadvantages: The countdown music on the timer - so repetitive and irritating!
Cranium Conga is somewhat unsurprisingly based on the popular Cranium series of games, which now boasts dozens of spin offs from the original board game.
Although the game is stated for up to 6 players, you can actually play with more if you don't use the scoreboards, and keep track on a piece of paper.
The object of the game is to complete a full circle conga line of pieces (16 in total) by working out the answers to hidden questions posed by the other players. As with other Cranium games, questions fall into 4 categories - Data Head (numbers, facts), Creative Cat (drawing, sculpting), Star Performer (humming, charades) and Word Worm (language skills).
On their turn, players take control of the Conga timer (a red plastic device, with an inbuilt timer, and a wipe clean pen/writing board. Taking a card from the pack (which will be in one of the 4 categories mentioned above), the player must write down the answer to the question in secret on the Conga timer, close the lid, and pass the timer to their left. The countdown starts here, and each player in turn must guess out loud their answer to the question.
Example questions could be 'How many ice creams have I ever eaten in my life?', to which the first player may guess '100'. If this is incorrect, the person who wrote the answer down can shout 'higher' or 'lower', the next person guesses and the timer is passed round until either the countdown runs out, or somebody guesses the correct answer. If you guess correctly, both the guesser and the person posing the question will collect a certain number of points, depending on the counter that is revealed when opening up the timer to reveal the correct answer (between 1 and 4 points). If nobody guesses, everybody but the question poser picks up 1 point.
The cranium sculpting clay is used on some questions to give clues to players, and in some categories, players may act/sing/hum to help players guess the answer. A good strategy when picking an answer to a question on your turn, is to think of something that will be guessed eventually, but not right away...that is the best way to pick up maximum points!
Cranium Conga is a good game to play with all ages, and can be a fun way to find out more about each other.
Whilst not the best game in the series, Cranium Conga can be had for less than £10 on Amazon, and will provide you with hours of family entertainment at a great price.
Summary: Another fun game from the creators of Cranium
