Advantages: Great fun!

Disadvantages: Red questions are a bit hard sometimes!

Cranium is a board game with a bit of a twist. Instead of your usual Trivial Pursuit type games, where you simply sit down at the table and play, Cranium gets you up and out of your seat!

It is played in teams, of two or more players. There are four teams per game, and the aim of the game is to move your playing piece around the board until you reach the middle. On each turn, you land on a different coloured spot, and this colour determines what your task will be. There are four colours, yellow, blue, green and red.

Yellow: Word Worm. This is my personal favourite. In this round, there are five different types of tasks, including spelling words (forwards and backwards!), anagrams and definitions of difficult words.

Blue: Creative Cat. There are three different types of tasks in this round, including a Pictionary type round where one member of the team sketches a picture for the other members to guess; as well doing the same but with your eyes closed (very fun!) and also sculpting a clue with clay for the other members to guess at.

Green: Star Performer. This is the one that gets you out of your seat! There are three types of task here - humming a song for your team to guess, basic charades, and copycat, where one member of the team has to imitate a famous person without using any names.

Red: Data Head. This is the hard one! There are three types of questions: a true or false question, and two trivia questions, one of which gives you multiple choice.

This is a really different type of board game, and knowing it has been around for many years, I can't believe I had not played it until this weekend!

Prices range from around £15 to £20.

It's great fun for all the family.

Summary: Brilliant board game!
