Darts - the only game worth playing!?
A game accessible to everyone and anyone. Any sex, any age, any body!
There are 2 sides to darts, the game we all play down the pub with a few mates and the sport we see on TV. The same game, but 2 completely different versions.
Darts down the pub is the best game to play for the mere mortal pub going bloke like myself. What better way to while away those drinking hours than by hurling bits of metal at a horsehair board? Of course, there is much more to it than that. With a bit of practice and regular playing, anyone can get to an acceptable level of darts where they can enjoy a competitive match against a mate, or even join a local pub team, and once you get to this level is when you really start to appreciate the game. The pressure caused by a close game as you and your opponent are going for the double
to clinch the game is brilliant. And the joy you get when you do hit that double is immense - only rivalled by scoring the almighty 180 - a feat I have only managed twice, but I loved every second of each one.
If you find a darts partner who is at the same standard as you are, you can have some fantastic moments stood at the oche and really start to enjoy the magic of the game.
The other side of darts, the Phil Taylor side, reveals a truly brilliant spectator sport. If you have ever watched some of the darts finals, you'll kow what I mean. The tension, the pressure and the jubilation all created by six darts, two men and a dartboard is unreal. But the best thing about professional darts for me, is that the players are all 'real' people. They all play for their local teams, have real day jobs (well the majority - The Power and others of his status don't anymore) and love the sport they play. None of this mulit million pound wages rubbish, when darts players play darts, they play for the glory and for the game, not for an £80 million transfer fee!!
So, in summary, get down to your local pub and step up to the oche for a good old game of 'arra's.
Summary: The king of pub games.
