That site instructs you to buy Diplomacy on-line via Mail Order Express UK (http://www.mailorderexpress.com/gibsons /gibsonsshop.html) for £19.99. I've also seen this sold on eBay from only £1, as well as on Amazon's marketplace, but the only one they had available (at time of writing this review) was going for a hefty £29.90, so I suggest you shop around! ~~~~~...more

Crowned Review Diplomacy: Make Deals, not War! (797 words)
by - written on 19/07/07 (Very useful, 114 readings)
Rating:

When my son was 13, he got this game as a present from his grandparents (after he had asked for it)! This should be recommendation enough for a game that doesn't have banging and shooting and blood everywhere. Furthermore, it is a BOARD game. No video, no play station, and no computer - this game is played on a table with other human beings. And, believe me, even though it is a military strategy game, this is a addictive game. The idea of the game is to (of course) take over the world. Now, usually there are dice and lots of chance involved in these types of games (i.e. Risk), but not here. Here you have to decide by writing down your moves on a page, and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review For serious war gamers (1083 words)

Rating:

War has existed almost as long as man. From early caveman using flint weapons to the modern day bombers that kill remotely, war has grown almost into a sport. During most wars, Generals like to have an overview of a particular battlefield (or even a whole continent) in which to plan strategy and trace the enemy’s movements. Such planning is essential for a successful campaign and can often be the difference between winning or losing a war. Over the years this overview developed and grew and ‘normal’ people began to simulate battles and effectively try out their own strategies to see if they could win battles that seemingly are ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Diplomacy: Backstab your friends for fun. (480 words)

Rating:

Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell, and them lookng forward to the trip. Much the same in the game. In the basic, vanilla, buy over-in-the-shops version, 7 players via for control of Europe circa 1900. Each country controls a mixture of armies and fleets, that occupy territory and try to expand, firstly into neutrals and then on into your opponents countries. The board is simple. It's divided into regions which are either land or sea. Fleets can only move into sea or land next to sea. Armies only on land. One army or fleetcan occupy a region at a time. Some land regions are supply centres. You use these to supply your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Pure strategy gaming (386 words)
by - written on 25/07/00 (Very useful, 171 readings)
Rating:

Diplomacy uses a very simple rules set to provide a game that is almost pure strategy and as its title implies diplomacy. Essentially this is a war game, the objective to take control of as much territory as possible within Europe. You control one of the European powers and must build and move your units in order to capture territory. This probably doesn't sound that different to games like risk, but the strong elements of Diplomacy come in when you play in a larger group. All moves happen simultaneously and to achieve this each player writes down their moves before the turn and then these instructions are revealed together. The board is updated ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Diplomacy: Diplomatic at last! (403 words)
by - written on 29/03/04 (Very useful, 93 readings)
Rating:

There is great excitement in our house as, after at least ten years of adulthood in a diplomacy-free environment we have finally rediscovered the board game we loved as teenagers! We actually found it on holiday in the States and bought it for the equivalent of £25. I guess we could have found it here if we’d looked hard enough – we have certainly found a couple of good online versions. But – for all you still in the dark what is it? Well, it’s a board game. The board bears a picture of Europe and Russia with supply centres marked thereupon. You get to be one or several countries ...  Read the complete review
