Family business is a card game based around prohibition era gangsters. Each player takes control of a gang of nine characters, all the gangs are the same, though they are all individually named. The aim of the game is to kill all the gang members of all the other players, whilst still keeping at least a few of your own alive. Each player has a hand of action cards, the majority of these are contracts, used to put other gangsters onto the hit list. Once there are too many (6) gangsters on the hit list, mob war breaks out and people start dying. There are a number of other cards, some of which stop your mobsters going onto the hit list, some get them off the hit list once they are there, and some are just plain mean (St Valentines Day Massacre kills, outright, everyone on the hitlist). This is a fun game, quite quick, with the more players the better. Ganging up on one person is generally fatal, no-one can survive if everyone else is out to get them, but co-operation and politicking are not generally encouraged. In general, the game works best if not taken too seriously, with good friends. The rules are simple to understand, and generally picked up quite quickly. There are no particularly complicated strategies to learn, making this an ideal game for when you have twenty minutes to kill and four people who have no games in common. Decent production values and a relatively cheap price make this a good game to get hold of, and bring out when some like minded people have a bit of time to kill.
