... know because I wanted one for a long time, and nearly bought one! The allure is not just in winning money. Bright flashing lights, TV or film tie-ins, and sound effects all aim to draw you to the machine. This is a bad thing as it also attracts kids, who all love the look of them; they look just like toys, even though you have to be over 18 to play. This drives me crazy, as it is deliberately trying to take money off of young people who don't have the mental capacity to realise the situation. It makes it look like a g...more

Premium Review Fruit Machines: Throw money away - now that's fun! (401 words)
by - written on 26/06/09 (Very useful, 41 readings)
Rating:

Fruit machines are gambling machines where you press a button to spin three or four different reels. If the reels land in certain positions, such as having the same picture on them, you win money. Every button press costs you money, usually between 20 and 50 pence. Prizes are usually from £1-£50, but some in Vegas have million dollar jackpots. There's a certain glamour associated with fruit machines, where basically the single aim is to make more money than you put in. You find them in most pubs, but can also buy them for your home for as little as £50 second hand on ebay. I know because I wanted one for a long time, and nearly bought one! I will begin by sharing two pieces of advice my dad gave me years ago about gambling in all forms and they are still true and will always remain so. First – never bet more than you can afford to loose. Regard your stake money as ‘lost money’ and anything you do win as a bonus. Secondly – never bet to recoup your losses. This is a mug’s game and you only just end up loosing more and more in the never-ending quest for the big win, which will put you straight again. The only real winner is the book maker, owner of the arcade, pools company, lottery organiser etc. Anyway on to my love affair with slot ...  Read the complete review

Fruit Machines: Flashing lights and empty pockets (117 words)

Fruit machines are a pain in hte butt, every pub you go in nowadays has at least one of them sat in the corner, flashing away and making computerised noises. Singing their little pied piper type come and spend your money here tune. What needs to be said is that some people can't keep away from them, they see them there and before long are chucking their money in. Having spent £20 they win £5 back and proceed to tell everyone theyve won £5 instead of the truth that theyve lost £15. Ajukebox is much more purposeful, all a fruit machine does is leave people sat around waiting for their partner to come back with empty pockets. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Who doesn't love a tug on the one armed bandit! (414 words)
by - written on 26/06/09 (Very useful, 34 readings)
Rating:

Fruit machines seem to be every where you turn these days. Shops, restaurants, clubs, pubs, bars, casinos etc and the temptation is always around for people to play a pound or two and see if the machine is going to 'pay out'. There are many different types of fruit machine and some of them have different names such as slot machines or poker machines and this really depends on what part of the world you are in. The main aim with a fruit machine is to put in your money and press the start button to spin the 3 or more reels and then hopefully make a combination which is pre-set by that particular machine and if you match up to one of the combinations ...  Read the complete review
