Advantages: Great fun.

Disadvantages: Too easy to lose money.

Fruit machines seem to be every where you turn these days. Shops, restaurants, clubs, pubs, bars, casinos etc and the temptation is always around for people to play a pound or two and see if the machine is going to 'pay out'.

There are many different types of fruit machine and some of them have different names such as slot machines or poker machines and this really depends on what part of the world you are in.

The main aim with a fruit machine is to put in your money and press the start button to spin the 3 or more reels and then hopefully make a combination which is pre-set by that particular machine and if you match up to one of the combinations then you will win a prize.

There is really no particular 'art' to playing a fruit machine and the key thing to remember is that it's an electronic machine and it's already decided what is going to happen to the next coin that goes in and whether it's going to produce a win or not. Also, fruit machines may offer odds such as 93% but this does not mean if you put in £10.00 you will get £9.30 back, it means that every £1,000 the machine would pay out £930.00 but that's not necessarily going to pay any of that percentage out to you!

I enjoy the odd go on a fruit machine but I don't feel compelled to play one each time I walk past, however, I do know some people like this and for this reason I think fruit machines should be avoided if you have an addictive personality or don't have any self control. It really is too easy to just chase your losses and continue putting in some more pounds to try and get the jackpot or win back what you've already lost.

If you want to enjoy playing fruit machines then only spend what you can afford to lose and see the game as fun and not as an investment of your money.

I do find fruit machines to be enjoyable but then I will only play when I don't mind wasting my money and then it's a nice bonus if I get a win at all.

I wouldn't actually recommend fruit machines to anybody because they are usually a waste of money, however, because I personally enjoy playing them I am going to rate them 3/5.

Summary: A great fun game if you see it as fun and not as a money maker.

We had a toy one as kids - which now strikes me as weird.
I think they are awful things and know they can lead to all kinds of gambling addiction.
I only put in one dollar when in vegas - won $7 and walked away!

we bought a book as kids that had all the reels pictured in order so you could read it and nudge the fruits and symbols in, knowing whats out of sight etc...lol. Made good money from that.

It is a long time since I played one. Never won a penny, but it was fun.
