Advantages: No money lost, exactly the same, great fun
Disadvantages: only barcrest
Fruit machines are becoming more and more popular and addictive these days and more and more people are playing them. You can find them pretty much anywhere from chip shops too casinos. The one problem is that they are very addictive and for some people that causes a lot of problems. There is a way that you can still enjoy playing fruit machines but without loosing any money or spending any money. That is because the fans of fruit machines have created an emulator for the Barcrest fruit machines. These emulate some 100+ machines ranging from new to as old as they get. The greatest part about these machines is that people who just enjoy playing machines for entertainment will not have to worry; everything is the same as it is in the pub even down to the lights. More and more machines are being released everyday and they are available to download at http://www.mpuworld.co.uk/ These machines are very detailed and everything is the same like the sound and the pictures. One thing though that this machine cannot give though is real money. Basically this program is great for someone that likes to play on the machines because they enjoy the sounds the lights and the fun without loosing their money. I find that when I play this it somewhat settles any urge you need to gamble as I mostly do it for entertainment, not just the money. This emulator however is still useful for those people that like to play the real thing. As you can put in as many plays as you like you can pretty much play them for hours on end and memorise the patterns and the ways in which the machine operates. This can prove to be a good skill as you can tell when the machine is in a good or a bad mood and decide whether or not you want to put any more money in. I have found the emulator a great deal of fun and it creates the feel of being around lots of fruit machines. Plus you feel very good when you win the jackpot just like you do on the real thing. It does a
very good job of bringing back the old days of fruit machines, as there are a lot of machines to choose from. Whether you like the old type of fruit machines or the new one you can still get both, as there are so many different machines to choose from. The slightly sad part about the emulator is that it can only emulate the Barcrest machines, which for some are not the best. Now that most people seem to be dropping out of the development of any more emulators for different machines the future of fruit machine emulation is looking rather dull But still more roms are being made for the gamers to play with so don?t despair. If you like some old classics like: . Road Hog . Viva Las Vegas . Bolder Dash . The Crystal Maze Download this emulator, it is free and you will get the fun and excitement of winning without loosing a penny of real money. Go to http://www.mpuworld.co.uk/ and download the roms for your favourite machines. This really helped me and is helping reduce the amount of money I spend and loose on gambling.

- 03/07/02 Nice opinion. I am actually the one who runs the site which you mentioned in your opinion - MPU World (http://www.mpuworld.co.u k). Thanks for the free plug! :-)
I personally don't think that emulation stops addicts from pumping their hard earned cash into real machines. Yes, to a certain extent it can prove to them that you just CAN'T win on fruit machines - but it will never take away the urge to try a quick £1 in a machine to see if it's 'ready to pay'. I myself, have been a fruit machine player for a good few years now, and although I have basically stopped playing them nowadays, I don't think it was down to the emulator being available. If anything, the emulator was handy for learning machines inside out so that I could have a 'better' playing experience on them in the wild. It is, however, a great pastime of mine designing layouts for machines to run on the MPU3/4 emulator. I have created many DX and classic layouts for this emulator which you'll find over at my site (mentioned above) - my latest layout being "Haunted House" DX - I hope you enjoy them! The emulator really can be a great boredom relief alternative from playing online games etc, as you get the authentic fruit machines without the lighter pocket. :-)
For more on the subject of emulation curing addiction, Alex Maroney has written a nice article detailing this subject over at his site. Here is the URL:- http://maroneyswebhovel.e muunlim.com/emulationcure saddiction.htm
T here is also now a JPM Impact emulator available which means you can play classic fruit machines such as Indiana Jones, Rollercoaster, and Sonic the Hedgehog on your PC. Visit the official JPeMu site here:- http://www.jpemu.com

- 21/06/02 Well people who have an addiction which a few people do have can play the emulator for fun. People who make silly comments like the above are people who probably don't gamble and don't know anything about been addicted to a fruit machine. Iam what you would now a days call a casual player, I spend about £20 a week on fruit machines. Now the emulator on my PC has taken £32,000 off me so far, so I would prefer to play the emulator than lose the money in real life. Also If you say having an emulator is a bad idea and people will see how much they can win, well, look at how much they put in. E.g. £300 IN, £220 OUT, oww look you've lost £80, so saying the emulator is a bad idea is silly. The emulator is a good idea cause it quite clearly shows you how much you can lose and how fruit machines work.
