Advantages: Good fun for all the family

Disadvantages: Gets boring eventually

It’s not really an adult game like Trivial Pursuit but is much more suited to the family. I would never dream of playing the Game of Life with a group of adults but it is hugely effective in keeping a group of children happy and interested for an hour or two however it’s probably best for older children because it’s a bit difficult to grasp at first I would say probably best for 8 years +.

The basic layout of the board is meant to represent someone travelling through their life. From schooling and Higher Education choices right through to retiring (sounds a little complex but it’s pretty understandable), the basic idea that the winner has the most money at the end of their life (Is this the right message to send to children, surely love and memories are a better measure of a life but hell it’s only a game).

It’s pretty much a variation on the ‘traditional’ board game except there is a spinner rather than a dice to work out how many squares to move, which I have also found it occasionally sticks (as loubyloo69 mentioned). As you make your way round the board, you find partners have children, pay taxes and everything you might expect, you even get the chance of buying Status symbols.

Overall it’s not bad for £15, but isn’t really an adult game. I suppose compared with other games it’s fairly advanced so it’s not really for young children. It can also loose some of it’s appeal once you’ve played it a couple of hundred times but has more staying power than some games, probably the appeal of controlling you’re life or some psychological thing like that, anywa
