Advantages: All ages, great fun, can twist to suit your needs

Disadvantages: Can be quite short

Guess Who is one of those fabulous games that everyone can play because it is so simple. It is very much a family game and my nieces love playing it because you can be really silly and mess around with good reason.

The aim of the game is simple - guess who is on your opponents card before they guess who is on yours. There are 24 cards with faces with a name underneath setup on plastic boards. You get two of these boards so unfortunately it really is only a two player game (although we've played as teams before). Along with these boards are yellow cards which will be used to give each player a person.

You decide who is going to guess first and then you would guess about a feature of the person your opponent has. There are a variety of differences between the people - eye colours, hair colour, hair length, hats, glasses, rosy cheeks, big noses and so on. You can also make a guess depending on the name if you get desperate. Once you've asked the question, your opponent has to answer with a simple yes or no. If they say yes, you knock down all of the people that don't have that feature. My first guess would always be the gender as you would find only a handful of females in with a group of males. If you were unlucky enough to get a female card, you would be found out extremely quickly!

The game is suitable from 3+ but it needs to be a very simple game at that age with a lot of prompting. I've played it with my 5 year old nephew who gets very disappointed if he doesn't get a yes so i'd say 6 or 7 is probably a good age to play it at and this is the age i first played it with my nieces.

The game takes around 5-20 minutes depending on how lucky your guesses are and the age of your opponent.

Personally, we found this game quite easy when we were younger and we would always finish it a bit too quickly for my liking. This is where we became creative and made up some of our own rules! Thought i'd share a couple of them incase you want to give your case a little twist.

In order to make the game harder, we would select more than one yellow card each so the questions became harder. Instead of a simple "Does your person have a big nose?", it turned to a "Do both of your people have a big nose?". Along with this, if you found out a hair colour, you would say "Does the person with brown hair also have glasses?" This prolonged the game and made you think more logically about what it was you were going to ask and the answer you would achieve. We played this from anywhere between 1 card and 7 cards (We were young and i think our parents were just pleased it took us a couple of hours and gave them peace!).

We also played it in another fashion where we had to draw out what we were asking. This has got to be one of the funniest methods to playing guess who? as i have got to be one of the world's worst artists and we often spent more time laughing at the pictures than anything else!

I think guess who? is a fantastic game that can be twisted slightly in order to have more fun and to suit the needs of your child. It can waste away hours of time whilst teaching them to be logical at the same time. It's a definite must to get children away from all of the computer games they concentrate on these days.

Summary: A must for all kids. Everyone will enjoy it and you can add your own twists to make it last longer.

It used to be a lot more sturdy back in the day - we find the people pop out of our modern set which is annoying!
